Default Weird experience...I don't even know what to call it.

I don't know if this was a dream or what....But, this morning I woke up at about 10, but fell back asleep. Then, I woke back up but I felt paralyzed, like I couldn't move or speak. I remember looking around and trying to yell for my boyfriend to come back there and wake me up or move me or something- I was freaking out. It's like I was yelling, but my body wasn't. It was so strange. Then, somehow, I was on the floor. I even remember feeling the carpet. But, I still couldn't move. I seriously remember thinking I was dying or something. It felt too real to be a dream...
So then I woke up at 3 pm...and I never sleep that late.
This ever happen to anyone, or can anyone help me make sense of what the hell that was?

You're right. Actually, I think Paige suffers from this.

Lucki, maybe she can give you some information regarding it. It sounds terrifying...hope you find some relief.

I was going to start a thread on this today too!

I have been having the same thing happen almost every morning for a couple months. It's exhausting and terrible. I will be having a nightmare, I will feel unable to move, panicking, trying really hard to just move my body, and at some point I will halfway awaken and all I can do is open my eyes. I see I'm in my own room and then I can't help but go back into my nightmare. It seems like it lasts forever.

I never had this happen before I started on yasmin birth control, and i decided to stop taking that today so hopefully it will help.

Nightmares suck, and the paralysis is even worse. And almost every night now? Fuck it. I hope it's the pills causing it and it will stop.

I've heard of high or low potassium levels being involved in this, as well as a disrupted sleeping schedule.

    Good luck.

This used to happen to me all the time. I hated it! It fortunately hasn't happened in years. It's so scary. Before when I believed in demons, I used to think it was them. haha. But now that I don't believe in Satan and demons and stuff, it hasn't happened again. Coincidence? No idea.

My little boy used to experience that. He'd wake up and not move, eyes wide open, but nothing else moving....and just lay there... then suddenly sort of snap out of it.

This was around the same time he was experiencing sever sleep apnea as well (stopped breathing in his sleep) But he grew out of both as he got older.

It is scary though hun, sorry that happened to you. Research it and learn about it, lots of people experience this and have worked with it.

I just did a google search and yup...it was sleep paralysis. Something similar has happened in the past, but this time it was really bad.

Ok another question. I actually had an anxiety attack (in the middle of piano class. How embarassing) today. The sleep paralysis was this morning. Do you think the two are related?

Have you ever or do you take Ambien? Have you ever done any sort of LSD? Ever took Ketamine?

Sounds like you are waking up during a certain cycle of your sleep in which your body is actually paralyzed. If you didn't take any of those drugs/meds above then you need to get the doctor.

I do think they are related. I personally think something is bothering you deep down and you aren't dealing with it.

I went through anxiety/panic big time after my mother passed away. I didn't want to face her death. If you don't deal with it, it'll manifest itself and deal with you.

No Ambien, no LSD, and I don't know what Ketamine is. Sometimes if I can't sleep though, I'll take Simply Sleep, an OTC sleeping aid. But, I didn't take any last night.

Interesting. I never thought of those as being related. Would you include X as being a potential culprit too?

But, come to think of it I only experienced the paralysis at my parents' house. Even when I'm visiting. Now I want to know what the deal is!

luckycharm, do you sleep supine (face up)? This is linked to sleep paralysis.

Whenever this happened to me, this is exactly the position I was in. This is so interesting! Apparently, it's common for supine sleepers to experience this. When they change their position, the problem goes away.

Okay, well, I just looked up sleep paralysis and it actually does exist, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis . I honestly never heard of it before. That sounds awful though. Ketamine is a drug that has been used many years to put people/animals to sleep during surgery. I have heard of people waking up during surgery and being completely aware of what was going on but not able to do anything about it. Ketamine is sold on the street now. I have also heard and know of people doing all sorts of things while on Ambien and supposely asleep then not knowing what they did the next day. Mushrooms and some forms of LSD can make people feel like they're in a trance/dreaming state as well.

It sounds awful just the same. I'd seek treatment and not take any sleeping meds till I received treatment.

Yea, that's what I read when I googled it. It makes sense...it just felt so much realer than a dream. The only dream-like thing that happened was when I was on the floor. Like seriously ya'll, it felt like an out-of-body experience.

I read the same wikipedia AND I've experienced the sleep paralysis. It's very common and I don't think it's something to see a doctor about. They probably won't do anything anyways. It's a common occurance that dates WAY back.

I don't sleep just on my back anymore and that probably has a lot to do with the fact that it hasn't happened to me in a long time. When I visit my parents, I sleep on a wider bed so I spread out really wide on my back. Then I wake up and am terrified because I can't move.

It's scary but it's not that abnormal.

Yup, I've heard the same thing about Ambien. See, I would understand if I had done something or taken something to cause this...but no, I just went to bed regular and sober.
Oh yeah, and I hope I'm never one of those who are awake during surgery!!!

We're different people so your reason is different (obviously )

I just remembered, my Mom used to experience this too. I haven't asked her recently about it so i'm not sure if she still gets it. It's the worst when you try to scream for help and no sound coes out of your mouth. It's like a horror film!

OMG, I was gonna post a thread on this yesterday!!!! This happens to me maybe once or twice a year. When I was addicted to Adderall, it happened more frequently (as it says in Wikipedia, it can be caused by ADD meds). Actually, I don't recall having any nightmares connected with it though.

It happened to me again this week....but a little different however. This time I was fully awake, and not able to open my eyes. I actually had one hand near my eye (hand under pillow) and somehow forced my fingers to move. I tried with some success to pry open my eyelid, as it would not open itself. It was really freaky.

You know what...now that you mention it, I really can't remember exactly what position I was when I woke up like that...it actually could have been on my back. But, I can't fall asleep on my back, I have to be laying on my side with a pillow between my knees and hugging it...lol
