    Default Curly Hair Cut

I have come to the conclusion that the reason my hair doesn't look so great when it's curly is because my hair is not in a cut meant for curly hair. Yeah, I just realized that. It's past my shoulders and pretty much one length, the only layers I had were lightly framing my face and they've now grown out to my shoulders. I read about the way that curly hair should be layered in order for the best shape results, but does that mean that if I want it straight now and then, it'll look freaky? Will a cut layered for curly hair look okay straight too?

My hair isn't exactly curly now that it's long, but it's very wavy and I kick it up to curls most of the time. I have long chunky layers that bring out the body and curl. Occasionally I straighten it and it still looks good, it's just nicely layered. Most people look good in long layers.

I have layers and I can go both curly and straight. It looks just fine.

How do you kick yours up?

A little product and scrunching, occasionally a curling iron. Usually when I wash it, I shake it out upside down, put a little product in it, scrunch it, and then wind some of it into little spirals and let it dry like that. If it still needs a little help afterwards then I break out the curling iron, but it usually doesn't. I get loose, wavy curls that way. It made tighter curls when it was shorter, but the weight of length pulls some of the curl out.

What parts do you wind up? The parts framing your face? Sorry for the zillions of questions, I am very curls-challenged.

When I twist it, I do it all in pieces around my face and then bits and pieces around the rest of my head. It just takes a minute or two to do it all. Just grab a small piece (pencil thickness or less) and twist it around. Let it dry like that and it falls out into an effect that resembles curling iron spirals, but softer and more natural. Do it when your hair has dried a bit but it's still somewhere between wet and damp.

If you hair is mostly one length its going to look bulky - You need chunky layers like Yek mentioned. That way it removes a lot of the bulk and heaviness from the hair and itll have nice curls all the way around. Itll remove weight too.

I love curly hair - my daughters so lucky

Id recommend for styling (not a cut) go to some place like Regis or another cheap full service salon and ask the girl to show you how to style your hair.
