Maybe you are putting too much on the brush at once? idk ive never really tried.
But I do notice that most nail techs apply half the nail with acrylic then the other half
It depends on how you're doing it. Are you getting too much powder and not enough solution? That could make it thicker and harder to smooth on and even out.
It's been a while since I had acrylics but I used to do 'em myself and I would dip the brush in solution, then powder, wait for it to gel a bit, then apply. All I can think of is that you're not getting the right combination to create the correct consistency on the brush before applying it to your nails. ??? If this is the case. you can re-dip the brush in the solution after you apply but before it hardens and smooth it out with the solution soaked brush.
A large brush is easier to work with imo. If you are trying with a small one like in those kits, it can be a pain in the ass. Also Guen is right, thinner consistency is much easier, and waiting for the stuff to cure for a few secs can help.
^ Yes. A larger brush is definatly nesessary. The tiny brush that comes in the kit sucks. But the larger, professional brushes can be very expensive.
You need to get the right combination of powder and liquid. To thin or to thick and it wont be right. You just gotta geta feel for it.
You also need to pick up the right amount. Getto much or to little, and you'll mess up.
After you have the mix on the brush, let it sit for a second and begin to gel. Look at the clump on the brush. If it looks to thin or thick, or you picked up to much or to little, wipe it off and try again.
Once youhave it just right on the brush, pat it down on the nail. Startback at the cuticle, laying down a bit and pat it all the way up to the tip.
Then re dip the brush in more liquid and begin to smooth it out.
Once you have the nail covered, you can pick up more of the acrylic and go over it again to smooth and even it out.
Get the fume free stuff
It dries slower and is way easier to use - its what they make us use in beauty school. u can get it at sallys
Oh! Or you can get the gel nails. MUCH easier to apply evenly, looks more natural.
(
First dip the brush into the liquid then swirl the brush into the powder to make a pearl size amount on the tip of your brush. Equally distribute the mixture right above your cuticle then work your way up. If it's too gritty add more liquid.

the brand could also be the problem.

Read through this website, it is quite helpful when starting out! http://www.hooked-on-nails.com/maintenance.html
Oi I completely forgot about this thread.
Thank you for all the great advice girls.
I got fed up and ripped what I had already done off because I just couldn't get it right lol. Im a lost cause on this.
I am going to try another time though when I have more time to fool around with them.
Thanks again girls!

I love gel nails.. they're what I always get when I go to the salon. I just don't know where to buy the stuff for them. I seem to be able to find acrylic anywhere though. Maybe I should go on a hunt for gel nail stuff and try them myself.
Try the Vicki Peters S-Gel system

I was able to teach myself to do these in a very short period of time, and get really good results. (My first set looked like crap though...LOL!q) They also have some great tutorial videos on the site.
I tried to do this once, for prom. I was a diaster. I had to pay to get rid of them. Hope you have better luck.

I would recommend practising on those cheap press on nails - stick them to something and practise the technique, then when you've got it down, do your own nails!
That said, I would just go to someone. The cost of the kits just isn't worth the quality IMHO.
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.
