    Jogging

I'm cancelling my gym membership and won't be set up with an address again until January. I get so depressed when I don't exercise, so I'd like to take up jogging. My grandmother is an avid runner and I used to run with her sometimes many years ago, but I haven't enjoyed it much since then. My mom took up running a couple of years ago and she still does it, and she looks MUCH better and she's lost at least 50 pounds.

I don't have a spanking fortune to spend on shoes, and I do have a decent sports bra. I've got some two-year-old Nikes that look like shit but I guess they'll do until I can afford some real running shoes.

It's never worked when I've just gone outside and started running. Can anyone recommend a good program that can ease me into it and get me doing this long-term? I'd like to become a regular long-term jogger, I just need to know how!

You really should look into getting some new running shoes. If you are using older shoes that are worn out, you could be putting yourself at a risk for all kinds of injury.

Keep us updated on how jogging goes for you. It's something I want to start doing once I'm fully moblie again.

Oooh, this is what I need to do too. If you find a good program, let me know.

(OTOH, jogging fucked up my knees before and I'm sure it'd be bad for my already fucked up back.)

Yeah, that's what worries me... my grandmother's been running for about 35 years and her feet look like shit, and she's had all kinds of knee and ankle injuries. I'm also concerned about shaking my tits down to my waist with all the impact. But I love the body that runners get, it's such good cardio, you lose weight so quickly, and it seems so freeing to get up very early in the morning (which I love to do, I'm weird) and just run away into the dawn.

I'm looking at programs and I'll let you know if I find any good ones!

looks pretty good. You start out just walking and doing 90-second jogging spurts, and work up a little more each week until you can run for three miles straight in two months. You do it three times a week for 20-30 minutes (I'd probably walk the other four days a week). Runners, what do you think?

that's kinda what I do now: I warm up with a fast walk for a couple minutes, run 6 mph for 90-120 seconds, slow down to a slow jog/fast walk for a couple, lather rinse repeat. I haven't been consistently going to the gym lately tho...I need to get back on that.
