Default Please help me put a package together!

Ok so I am kinda sorta having a long distance relationship with a man who is in the US Navy. I want to send him a package but am sort of stumped as to what to put in it. Who else has done this before? Id love some ideas!
How much is normal to send and how often?

BTW, Im in Australia - can you describe American food items carefully so I know what youre talking about

If I was in his shoes, I'd probably want some stuff unique to Australia actually. If he's located in the U.S. right now, he's probably indundated with most American items as it is. So receiving those in the package probably wouldn't mean as much as something that is new and interesting and reminds him of you.
Now if he's stationed overseas right now, then that might be a different story, because then it would be cool to have some familiarities from "home." This is just my opinion though. You know his personality much better.

    Thanks.
Thats just it - I dont know him that well, we only met twice although we email a lot! Im kind of like a health freak, I dont eat stuff that regular people eat so Im really stumped! I also have barely set foot in a supermarket for years which isnt helping...
He been floating around Asia for the last few months.
Im not even sure of what Aussie stuff to send apart from the obvious Vegemite, lol - and doesnt everyone hate Vegimite unless theyve grown up on it?!
Aussie girls help me out - the only other thing I can think of is Twisties and Lamingtons - would the Lamingtons survive, and are they even nice, I have never tried one? (allergy to eggs)

Jaffas are very Australian... and chocolate is made differently in Australia (with sugar instead of corn syrup, EW!) so all chocolate is good, like Lindt. Tim tams are perrrrfect! And Cherry Ripes... and chocolate bilbies! And Macadamias!

Jaffas are very awesome as well. I second the chocolate sending, if you think it will survive. Depending where he is in Asia, he may have a lot of American stuff already, and American chocolate is awful (IMO). I'm not totally clear on Aussie snacks, but Americans have awful versions of Smarties (M&Ms) and Cadbury bars (Called Cadbury but made here)-not sure if you guys have those. They might get crushed, but strangely (to us) flavored potato chips tend to go over really well with guys here. Ones other than salt, ranch, cheese, etc.

DEFINITELY send him Tim-Tams. The few Americans who've tried them go berserk when we see them, because they're delicious and you can't get them here. They'll ship well, too. (The Lamingtons wouldn't ship well and customs probably wouldn't let them through anyway, so don't bother with those.)

Other junky Aussie treats that I personally would like to get include: Violet Crumble, white Reese's cups, Cadbury Dairymilk, and Bundaberg ginger beer. I don't know if it'd be legal to send him alcohol but I'd sure love those pre-mixed Dark & Stormy drinks that come in a can, or some Bundaberg rum, or Mercury Cider. In fact I might pay US $50 for a six-pack of Mercury Cider right now, I miss that stuff (Draught or Dry, please).

You might also want to throw in some keepsakes to go with the Aussie theme too, like a T-shirt or a fridge magnet or something. And maybe a dirty picture of yourself to make his mates jealous.

I don't get it... are you trying to send him familiar U.S. goodies or Australian stuff for the novelty/to remind him of you?

hanks Yekhefa, I really appreciate your imput!!! (-:

Lily - I just want ideas whether US or Australian and I want to know what other people may have sent because Ive never done this before and my tastes are sort of "unusual", lol. I might not be able to get typical US products here which is why I wanted the ideas so maybe I could look for Aussie alternatives, and I want to know which Aussie items people outside of Australia like because I dont want to send him a whole bunch of things that maybe other people think are sickening!

I've been on the road working, I missed this thread.

Send him Aussie candy and delicacies, since Naval bases have stores stocked full of American foods & snacks. It can be both a conversation piece and a fond memory to have some Aussie food.

(Unless you're radically opposed to it, Aussie porn mags would be funny too- Commonwealth porn always has more entertaining text & enthusiastic looking girls. Do Aussie mags put those weird little dots of the private parts too, like they do in the UK? Sailors love their sex, regardless of nationality. My ex spend few days in Perth with an Ozzie chasing "Sheilas"...LOL So, porn and cookies. The way to a man's heart)

maybe send him a small bottle of your perfume for him to put on his pillow at night?

could you tell us where he's from in the US?

also, if he gets packages from other people from the US, then yes, go for aussie stuff-- and if he's from a certain part of the US that might help suggest regional stuff.

Oh yeah, regional foodstuffs would be a big kicker- it's easy for sailors & soldiers to get homesick.

I still vote for porn, though It's a perennial favorite for them!
