    Default I hate Capital One

I called Oct 15th to cancel the EFT payment because Im closing my old bank account. At that same time they asked if I wanted to try for a credit increase. OK, sure. Lady assures me Oct 19th will be last EFT.

I get the credit increase paper within a few days. Today is Oct 30th. No EFT cancel paper. I call and ream the guy. C'mon WTF is up. My account is CLOSED because I was told another EFT wouldnt go through. And he tells me it takes 30 days from the day they receive the form for it to take place. Great. So I tell him that its not going to go through so hed better make a note in my file. I also said Ive heard bad things about this company and if this shit turns sour I will close both my Cap 1 accounts.

Im so irked right now. So, hes going to resend the paper and Im going to cert mail it with receipt so I know they got it. I just dont trust this company.

The thing thats keeping me from closing my account is the fact that Its a key part of my credit rebuild from my ch7 - if I close it im closing all my credit history since the Ch 7 and thats not a good thing.

Capital One sucks a lot. I dealt with them 6 yrs ago...they were my first credit card. They gave me a measly $200 limit but gave my friends(also with no prior credit history) $300-500 limits. They raised this loser's credit limit despite his prior delinquencies with them, but refused to raise mine because of an overlimit fee...probably because the only money they were making off me was with overlimit fees, since I always paid my balance in full, and since it's very easy to go over your limit when your credit limit is so damn low.

There was a time that they added a $50 Credit Protection Program fee to my card without my permission. This caused my card to get declined at a restaurant when I was out with friends, wrongly making me look like a real deadbeat with money. On top of the $50 fee, they gave me yet another $29 overlimit fee...even though I had no knowledge of the $50 fee, and thus no knowledge that the fee and my purchases had pushed me above my limit. It took a few phone calls before they removed both of those. But a few months later when I petitioned for a raise of credit limit, they denied me based on that overlimit fee that I shoulda never gotten in the first place, which (by this time) had already been removed. It took throwing a temper tantrum before a rep agreed to double my limit to a "whopping" $400.

Another time, they gave me an overlimit fee for going $0.29 over my limit. I understand "rules are rules," but have some mercy? Most credit cards will waive a fee like this in an absurd hairline event like mine, in order to save a customer from closing their account.

Audrey, I sympathize with you because I've gone through hell with CapitalOne. You'll probably have to talk to many reps and you should take notes concerning who you spoke to(get names and employee numbers) and when. Hopefully you can get this cleared up. But count on going through a lot of "dirty work" to follow up. Obtaining a copy of your credit report is a good idea too, to make sure that they're reporting your account correctly. Good luck.

I will never own a CapOne card ever again. I paid mine off, cut it up, and never looked back. The only thing I liked about it was the pretty horse design mine had

Here is a little trick i learned working at a credit card company.

Call them and ask if you make a payment over the phone before the due date will it stop the EFT? I would do it at least three days before the due date no matter what they say about the time frame. The computer is what pulls the automatic payment and it usually starts the process a day or so before the due date. If the person you are talking too doesn't seem to know ask for a supervisor.

The company I worked for was set up this way. I used it alot to help people who were canceling automatic payments.

Also call your bank that has the checking account and ask what will happen if it the automatic payment were to come thru. Some banks will reopen the account and give you an over drawn fee because it is an item that was pulled from the account before. Some banks will just send it back to the credit card company. If they send it back the credit card company will charge you a fee.
