Default how do you choose a surgeon?

No, not for new bewbies. For rhinoplasty. I know I want to have it done, but I have no idea where to start, or what exactly to look for, as far as choosing a doctor. There are about a zillion in both cities where I'm considering having it done, and trying to research doctors is making my head spin. It's like "here are five million doctors, I don't know what exactly I'm looking for, but better choose carefully or I'll end up looking like the phantom of the opera with a butchered falling-off crooked un-fixable ugly nose forever..."

All I want is to have a bump filed down. I could go back to the doctor that did my surgery for a deviated septum...but he did full rhino for one of my mother's friends and her nose looks like Michael Jackson's now. For real. I don't know if that was the look she was going for or not, but I would be inconsolable if my nose came out like that. So I don't really want to go to him, even though he fixed my septum with no problems.

Those of you who have had cosmetic surgery, particularly rhinoplasty...how did you go about researching and finding doctors? And what did you look for in a doctor? (And if anyone has any recommendations for a good doctor in either Philadelphia or Baltimore...I'm all ears.)

I really think the best way to pick your doctor is to do your homework and talk to people in your area. Picking out rhinoplasties is harder than boobs because its harder to tell if someone has had their nose done, but I have seen mediocre results on people who RAVED about their doctor. Maybe they thought they got good work and they were pleased with the service, but I know good work when I see it.

The general rule of thumb is- find someone that specializes (i.e, the doctor does 100-200 of these surgeries per year- not once every other week.) If you want rhinoplasty, go to a doctor who does exclusively facial surgery.

The only word of advice I can offer is that while watching one of those plastic surgery gone wrong shows a Dr who fixed a women boxted nose job said that it is actually the hardest procedure of all plastic surgeries to do . He said that to find a good DR for a nose job you should go with one who specializes in nose jobs because they do more of them more often and have gotten the practice . That could just be something you use to help narrow your search , look for Drs who do less thing of the other procedures and maybe even some who only do face or noses ?

When I did mine, I went to about 6 different consultations and looked at before and afters. You also want to make sure that your doctor is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. They have a website that could probably help you.

There is a doctor in D.C. that is really good named Ronald Perlman. It's kind of in your area. My girlfriend works for him and she is gorgeous from all the work he's done on her.

    1) ask around, go up to different girls that you know have had nose jobs and ask their doctors.

    2) look at like 10000 before and after pictures then you can decide after a consult.
