Last night R installed Linux on my computer and got rid of that bloated excuse for a program they call Windows. Still working out tweaks, but I don't know why I didn't ask him to do it sooner. More programs for free, games, etc and it all takes up way less space. I had hardly anything on my computer, yet my hardrive was 90% full with all the useless Windows crap. I also got Opera and I love the speed dial function.

My computer runs so much better now it's not even funny.

Anyone else have Linux?

I have XP and I hate it! I refuse to go Vista which i've heard is worse. I'm thinking of getting a mac.

Opera is terrible; user interface is just wrong. All wrong. Firefox is good.

Played with Xandros recently and that was nice with good auto-updating and improved package installation options...but still had video driver issues. Linux is just not a desktop option.

Must say I'm loving the Vista.

I run Linux sometimes in a virtual machine, but since I use my computer to play various Windows games (I mean the latest FPS', MMORPGs, Flight Simulators), I still need Windows. Vista has been working fine for me, although there were some issues I had to iron out when I started, and there are still a couple of unresolved issues. Uses my hard-drive space, but hard-drives are so cheap I really don't care about that. Firexfox for me, but then Firefox is the same more or less on Windows or Linux.

Opera is pretty nice actually. In some ways better than Firefox.

Have to disagree, but still agree. In the world from a business stand point, the three major desktop platforms are Windows OS X and Linux. The choice of which often is based financially, but in reality, what you save in linux, you lose in training, support, and otherwise. What you gain in OS X you lose when you have to go cross platform, support, hardware support.

Opera is. I use it on my phone sometimes. But really, it's fans make it out to be more than it is. Firefox really did beat them at their own game. Opera does have speed in it's browsing though. But I don't really see the benefit these days.

I love BSD and always will. FreeBSD just has their shit together the most out of the whole BSD side. Granted the others have their specific purposes.

I run Vista on my laptop with OS X running through a VM as well as FreeBSD 6, and Suse. I have an Ubuntu VM as well, but outside the ports package, I'm not learning anything with it.

I was running OS X on my laptop because, really, it just gets in my way the least. A lot of what I do is native. But since my client base uses windows, I switched.

Gotta say, I love the Vista. Annoying turning it into a machine an Admin could use, but great from the mindless user perspective. There are a few other things as well that we could do.

Dual booting is just too often an absolute pain in the ass.

Only thing I don't like about Opera so far is that when I tell it to remember my passwords like in FF, it doesn't.

I run Firefox 2.0.0.8 on my iBook G4 with OS X 10.3.9, and I am generally happy with it. Every now and then it locks up with the spinning rainbow ball and I have to force quit and launch it again. Seems this happens mostly when I'm on SW.

I have it set to automatically erase cache, history, and cookies every time I quit. That's a feature I really like, as I am a paranoid privacy freak.

I have a Windows XP machine, but I only use it for work and on highly trusted sites. I never surf the web with it for fun. Too much dangerous stuff lurking out there for Windows users.
