Default My Lil' Minx has no grip

Like the title says, I got a Lil' Minx. It's a thicker pole than what I'm used to at various clubs, but it's almost impossible to grip. My hand just slides right down it. I'm wondering if I should return it and get a better pole or maybe just keep working on developing my grip? I never, ever had a problem in the club with gripping or holding my entire body up with my hands.

I think I remember some threads a while back about the Lil Minx being disappointing after a while... I don't think you are alone! I've never used one, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but based on what ive heard I would say sell it and just buy a brass pole.

You get used to it after a while. You have to build some hand strength for grip, it takes a few weeks practice. Keeping the pole and your hands free from oils or moisture is key. It will never be as comfortable as a brass pole though.

what kind did you get? I have two rotating stainless steel and they are definitely thicker and slicker than most poles but since that is what I learned on it made it easier when I finally used a brass pole at work.

If you can master a difficult pole like this, others will seem so much easier.

And yes, it'll take you a while to gain your grip. I couldnt do a basic spin on it until after daily practice for a week.

OK, thanks guys. When I worked at Sassy's in Portland, Oregon they had a thick pole, and it was almost impossible for me to do anything! It's how this pole feels, too. I'm going to keep working on it - it's only been a few days.

Kind of a tangent off this post but--If you have trouble with grip like that on a pole, is that something you'll basically overcome with practice? Or no? I have a practice pole with horrible grip that I rarely use but I'm wondering if I keep at it if somehow I'll overcome. I'm strong enough to do my tricks and can do them on a brass, it's just I slide down this pole when I handle it--And my hands aren't sweaty or any of that.

When I made my pole, I bought a 2" diameter, 8ft long piece of stainless steel, and I used some stainless steel polish and a small mouse size sander on it. I never had a problem with grip. Maybe you could try using a piece of really fine emery cloth on it in an inconspicuous spot, just to rough it up a bit to see if you get a better grip.

Huh, my Lil Mynx has too much grip. I can't slide on it at all. You're right about the thickness, though. I think when I get settled, I'm going to sell my Lil Mynx and buy one of those PS petite spinning poles.

Helle...you do gain grip strength and control with time! It is something that you get over...once you get used to using a different surface.

Stainless is one of the more difficult surfaces to learn with...but they are the best for strength training for more advanced tricks...if you can do it on a stainless...you will rock on a brass (it has way more grip)...due to its slip, it is also better for swing momentum and grace.

I have a Lil' Mynx and it works well for me. I know stainless is alot different than brass but I just learned to work around it. Sometimes I have to wear boots and that helps give more grip. Also I make sure to clean the pole often with rubbing alcohol mixed with water...that helps alot. When I first bought the pole I could hardly do anything but within a few weeks I had learned all kinds of new tricks. I just wish I had taller ceilings haha!

I started on the lil mynx and would NEVER get rid of it. I never had the chance to dance on a brass pole so they must be "grippier". I took lessons before dancing and when I went into the clubs to audition/dance I was amazed at what I could do on their poles. My tricks were actually more graceful because i had the grip and strength to do so. If you can, hold out because it will be worth it. You also get a better total body workout because your muscles are "working harder". Best of luck!

My pole is slippery as hell! It's just a fucking electrical conduit pipe, not even stainless steel. I wanted to build a flexible composite pole and was checking out thinner conduit pipes to use as a core, but thought "Why not?" when I saw the 2" one sitting there ready to go.

So I get it home, lash it to the beam on my ceiling, and go to try my usual shit. Couldn't do it, I was sliding right down the damned thing like a newbie. After a few days repeated effort, I got so I could use it. After a couple weeks, I was doing the usual shit.

The really good thing is, when you then go back to a brass pole in the club, you will feel so much more control--it's great!

So to the OP, I would say keep practicing, keep trying, you'll just get better, and then better still when you use brass!

Moments later--OK, had to come back, I just saw that Alena had said basically the same thing, and she knows much more than I do about it, lol. Eh, I'm going to leave it anyway...

And once you build your hand strength, you'll never need help opening a pickle jar again!

I actually just got rid of my epoxy mynx pole & was going to get a stainless one because I thought it would be closer to brass. What do you guys think?

    ------
I guess what I am asking is....is a stainless pole more slippery than one of the mynx poles?

i find that chrome/stainless steel are way easier to do tricks on than the lil mynx powder poles... i couldn't grip it for shit. I have way small hands and its hard for me to do tricks period, but the lil mynx was a total challenge and waste of money for me.
