    Default Animal bites

My cat got out yesterday for the first time ever. I was washing my car and opening/closing the garage screens and somehow she got past me. Well, I noticed she was gone a couple mins later and freaked out looking for her(shes declawed/been a housecat since she was born)

I found her down the street in a wooded area...near another cat! Her tail was huge and they were having a stare down and I came up behind her to pick her up and she freaked OUT and bit the hell outta my arm. I wasnt exactly thinking i guess just scared she was out also without a collar/tag on...Blood shot out everywhere, it was so gross. Anyway, I came home cleaned it/put a bandaid on it and it hurt really bad for a couple hours.

About an hour ago it just got really red and puffy and now its HUGE! it stings and i cant even touch my lower left arm at ALL. my friends dad is a doctor and he gave me some antibotics(sp) to put on it. When will this go away?!! Owww!!!!

Somehow, having cat saliva in the cut really makes things poof out. I'm not a doctor but I found that putting rubbing alcohol on it, though it hurt like a bitch, really helped the swelling and puffyness go down.

Cat saliva or scratches can be very irritating..even if you arent allergic. Cat scratch fever(the kiss song)is a real thing! Give the antibiotics a few days and you should see a differance.Put some neosporin on it too...rubbing alcohol will BURN. If you have any Betadine or iodine..you can clean with that too.

Antibiotics to put on it? You should be on internal antibiotics.

And yes, Cat Scratch Fever is very real. I had a Doberman get it years ago from my sisters cat who had kittens. It's flu like symptoms at times. You will swell, and feel feverish along with being run down. Also a huge factor with cat bites is just an infection on the site of the bite.

    You really need internal antibiotics.

    God luck.

"Cat Scratch Fever" was Ted Neugent, not Kiss.

But yes, it is very real. Cats' mouths are extremely dirty, and the hooked shape of their claws means that a cat scratch leaves a little pocket of filth under your skin, which is why a cat scratch gets so swollen and infected. Try the topical antibiotic, but if you develop a fever then go to the doctor for pills.

I had catscratch fever. I didn't have a fever tho.
I had an enlarged lymph node on my neck, and they weren't sure what it was, so I had surgery to remove and biopsy it, and the test results came back as catscratch fever. I was on a 3 month course of antibiotics to get rid of it...but I had never felt ill, I had no symptoms at all becides the lymph node. strange...

If you look at cats' teeth under a microscope they are seraded (sp) like a bumpy knife. The ridges are full of bacteria and this is why they are more prone to infection. You really should get on antibiotics becuase it is likely to get infected. Sorry hon- I know DOCTOR'S BILLS SUCK!!!

agreeing with what everyone has already said... i have had some nasty infected wounds before and my doctor recommended frequent hot compresses. a hot towel a few times a day for 10 minutes helps to draw out the infection. i'v found it very effective at speeding up healing time for stubborn infections.
