    Default WARNING...animal abuse

This is about the illegal slaughter of dolphins in Japan

And my respect for Hayden Panitierre went WAY high for her active participation in this.

Food. I disagree with killing dolphins, but I also realize that different cultures have different viewpoints.

I agree. The clubbing of baby seals for absolutely no reason upsets me more. So does the poaching of endangered species like the rhinocerous simply for its horn, or of "sport hunting" for just the antlers of a stag.

I don't like the dolphin slaughter at all, but there are worse animal cruelty problems to be dealt with.

It is illegal to do it..even there. Food or not. And the way they are slaughtered is unimaginable..babies and all.

This isnt about differant cultures...it is against the law there too. It is about cruelty and greed pure and simple.

It's horribly inhumane and definitely illegal, but I guess at LEAST they're eating it. :\ Not that it makes it much better, but yeah.

not all...some are kept and sold as circus performers.

Dolphins are sentient, extremely intelligent creatures and live as family units. They said you can hear them scream as they are taken from their families and killed. Disgusting.

Actually, I don't think Japan has laws against hunting dolphin.

Wikipedia states that the Japanese government allows for 3000 dolphins to be taken per year.

    I got dfrom this:

"The fishermen don’t want the public to know about their dirty, little secret, so they spend a lot of time hiding their activities. They know that if Japan and the world learn the truth about this barbaric practice, world opinion will immediately put it to an end.

The fishermen in Taiji told us not to take any photographs. They said that if our photos and video footage get out to the rest of the world, it would pressure the authorities in Tokyo to deny them permits for the annual dolphin slaughter. "

That the way they were doing it was not legal. Even legal fishing has laws that have to be followed and it dies not seem they are doing so...or why would they hide it?

Plus.,.even if it is legal...it doesnt make it right. The baby seal hunt is legal too...still disgusting and needs to be stopped.

And their government is poisoning their own citizens in the process.

I wish there was something we could besides send a letter to people who are involved in this business, obviously they don't care and are making tons of money. There's gotta be another way.

I wish I could go down there and cut the nets myself! What are they going to do? Shove me with a stick like they did with the surfers? I wouldn't give up that easy.

    Wow, go Hayden.

If only Britney, Paris and Lindsay would be able to learn from Hayden's example.

Doesn't matter. ALL of this is animal abuse, even if laws don't recognise it as so.

Bashing an animal over the head IS animal abuse. Everyone knows this, but don't give a shit.

Imagine being bashed over the head until you die! Yea it's ugly.

Somehow I doubt that makes the dolphins okay with it.

I don't buy the "cultural differences" argument. They're intelligent, sentient animals. The same argument is used to justify female genital mutilation and all sorts of atrocities to humans and other animals all the time.

I'm not even going to click it because I can't watch.

IMO, dolphins and humans are equals....actually I kind of speculate that dolphins are way more intelligent than we are.

Animals are sentient beings, killing them inhumanely and unecessarily is wrong, whether it's for food or not.
