    Your diet secrets?

Okay, so everday I try to eat three healthy meals, and a couple healthy snacks without totally having a calorie fest, but I just can't do it! I always go over the amount that I had planned and I end up running on the damn tredmill untill I cant feel my buttcheeks anymore
About how many Calories do you eat a day? What kind of healthy foods/low calorie snacks do you eat? Just curious!
    Thanks everyone

I'm a vegetarian and use tofu a lot to subsitute meat products. It's low fat, super high in protein and takes on the flavor of whatever you're cooking.

You've got a good regime though, 3 meals a day plus snacks.

I don't count calories. Just try to eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can so you don't have room for much else. Food is primarily for nutrition, after all.

I never weigh myself either. However, I am in the process of toning up for my auditions and will take my measurements every month to chart my progress. Stress can cause weight gain so I do a lot of yoga to relax.

Oh yeah, processed food is nearly always a bad idea. And avoid high-fructose corn syrup!

Best advice I can give that may or may not work for you is: every time you are about to eat, ask yourself "am I truly hungry?" That tends to stop the eating for the sake of eating.

Lots of water and whole foods - mostly raw. Nothing with loads of long-syllabled ingredients that I don't recognize as a food.

That's a great one I tend not to do. I'm rarely hungry. I'd probably only eat once a day. I'll try it tomorrow and see how much I actually eat.

Break your three meals into six smaller ones and spread them out throughout the day.

You're less likely to go hungry this way and it keeps your metabolism active.

Drink at least one cup of green tea (or white tea if you're sensitive to caffiene) per day. Don't drink anything carbonated.

I don't count calories I just eat the same thing every day and it's been working for me. And if I ever go out all I order is a salad with the dressing on the side. I try pretty hard to stick with low carb high protein type food and it's been working.

Drink a big glass of water before each meal and take slow deliberate bites and chew really well. Do NOT eat in front of the Tv. Use a smaller plate and always try and leave something when you are done. Keep heathy snacks with you at all times, such as nuts, dried fruit, beef jerky, veggies sticks ect. Cheat one meal a week on whatever you are craving. Forgive yourself and move on if you screw up. And finally TONALIN TONALIN TONALIN!!

I lost 100 lbs by just cutting down the volume of food I ate. "Normal" "active" adult women should consume around 1900-2100 calories a day. Factor in how much physical activity you actually do. If the answer is "not much", then cut back to around 1600-1750 calories a day. The treadmill isn't the best answer. I've found that my body gets used to it and it's not as effective as the elliptical or stair stepper.

    Drink. Lots.

Instead of snacking, drink teas, juices (100% - no sugary additives) and water.

No, they can actually quash your metabolism by making your body depend more on the speed rush from the supplements as opposed to naturally raising your metabolism up. Sure, they work short term, but unless you continue taking them, they don't work. And, you can't continue taking them because they tax your body too much.

Eat smaller meals, more frequently. If you're going to do the treadmill, learn about HIIT (High intensity, interval training). Replace any chips, fries, deep fried anything with veggies. Make fresh fruits your dessert. Drink plenty of water...if you've just eaten and still feel hungry, drink 1 full glass of water and wait a few minutes. A lot of people mistake thirst for hunger. You need at LEAST 1/2 your total body weight in oz. of water per day. So, if you weigh 140, you should be drinking 70 oz of water. This may change by the day...but as you get used to drinking water and how your body feels when it's totally hydrated, you'll naturally adjust how much water you drink per day.

Venus' response about OTC fat burners sounds pretty spot on. There are studies that claim that once yo ride the diet pill roller coaster for a while, your metabolism may never be the same, and may slow down considerably once you wean yourself from the diet pills. Also, as was drilled into my head while I was a collegiate athlete, those supplements and diet pills are not regulated by the FDA, which means the maker can throw whatever they want into the batch and isn't obliged to put on the label exactly what is in the pill. The same goes for the amount of each ingredient. You may see different results because the amount of the "fat burning" ingredient varies bottle to bottle.
I'm a body builder so I have to pay attention to the same thing when it comes to my supplementation. Would not touch a diet pill, though. They're just trouble.
I remember you too, TM. Nice you see you.

This is so damn true. Water consumption is key to good health and yet no one seems to realize this.

Sometimes people eat when in fact they are actually thirsty! Try some water, it's addictive imo.

Don't drink your calories, and drink lots of water.

    Read labels.

Find a weighing system that works for you. Personally I find it works best for me to weigh myself every morning since I can catch problems fast but it works better for others to weigh once a week, once a month, or not at all.

Up fiber and protein, lower carbs and fats. Avoid white breads as much as possible.

Don't completely cut out anything. In moderation fats and dairy and meat are all good for you, and if you completely cut out something like chocolate or pizza that you really like you'll probably just binge on it later.

And I'm being a hypocrite but never take diet pills or do crash diets. If they work at all they are extremely temporary and almost always bad for you.

    WOW
I wrote this last year when i was doing so awesome on my diet, had lost like 50 pounds and was feeling great. I miss feeling that way. I need to start taking my own advice again and all the rest of this great advice. Especially about drinking water! I just went and got myself a huge ice water after reading this and i'm going to try and drink half my weight in oz's today!

    Great thread

I don't count calories either nor do I eat three meals a day. I have 6 small meals, kind of like six large snacks a day - a small salad, a half a sandwich, soup, Sun-chips and salsa, small chicken breast, tuna on low fat crackers, etc. I also don't eat 2 hours before bed and limit my alcohol and sugar intake. I admit though I don't drink enough water but I am trying. I use those Slim-Quick packets to go and those help curb cravings and up my energy.

When I am PMS-d all these rules go out the window and I just up my workout a bit.
