Default Any ideas for a second job ?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here is the situation. The slow season is here for my regular job and I have a lot of free time. My problem my is my schedule varies from week to week sometimes I only have a day or two notice. Sometimes I work days sometimes nights. Sometimes during the week sometimes weekends. If I were to get another job I would have to have very flexible hours. Pay is not that important but if I could make an extra $100-$200 a week it would help greatly.

Just some basic background I do have a business degree most of experience in sales (business to business), and basic computer input.

I actually did do the day trading thing for a while, but it did not take me long to lose more money than I want to admit.

I never took a class, but I didn't go through an agency or anything like that. Just found a small doctor's office and worked exclusively for them.

Alot of the retail stores are hiring for Holiday help, Plus you get a store discount to save on Christmas presents!! Try Nordstroms or Macys. I liked working in the make up section.

Hmmm where should I start...so many job options available if you put in the necessary time to look, apply, and actively pursue it...

    - temp agencies -- If you lack entry level experience in your Business field, or if you haven't worked a "regular" job in a few years, temp agencies are good ways to find instant short-term work and obtain skills/experience to put on your resume. They offer mostly office work, but also work in other fields as well -- e.g., marketing, laboratories, blue collar labor work, etc.

If you're just looking for a low-stress, low-committment part-time job, try the following:
    - Starbucks. Like most low-end service jobs, they don't pay much...probably around $7/hr...but even on that wage, you can easily make $100-200/week net...and if you work 20hrs/week+, you're eligible for their excellent benefits, including group health insurance, stock options, etc. And since you have a business degree, you could probably try applying(or working your way up) to assistant manager, which (as of 2004) pays around $12.50/hr.
    - commissioned department store holiday sales -- When I was in high school, I worked the cosmetics counter at JC Penneys. Sales during the holiday were easy and it was pretty decent money. As a high school kid, I averaged $11-12/hr during the holidays. If you apply to a higher-end department store like Macy's or Dillards, there's potential to make a lot more money than I made, since JC Penneys doesn't really emphasize their cosmetics(I don't think they even have a cosmetics department anymore these days).
    - restaurant server -- You can make pretty good money in tips, esp on weekends or around holiday season in touristy areas where families are out and about. Some places don't require you to claim tips, which saves you money in taxes(just make sure you use those cash tips for cash purchases that don't leave a paper trail, or else the IRS might catch on!). Corporate restaurants make you claim 10% of your gross sales as tips, but you generally make more than 10% on average.
    - select grocery stores -- In my area(Philadelphia), Acme and Wegmans pay their employees more than the average grocery store chain. In some higher income areas, Acme pays $10.25/hr starting wage to work in the deli...not the best money, but definitely not too shabby for low-skill grocery work. You can easily make $100-200/week doing that. However, keep in mind that grocery stores tend to skimp on hours and you probably won't get more than 15hr weeks unless you've been there for a while and petition for a full-time position. But 15hr weeks at $10.25/hr will give you at least $100, which you say you need.

Hmmm...since I work in that field, here's my viewpoint:

Most medical transcription jobs are getting offshored to other countries, such as India, where they can get away with paying the employees low low low rates(due to international exchange rates, these "low" rates translate to a lot of Rupees and a comfortable income for the Indians). A customer came into my club where I serve drinks the other month, and told me about how he spent $8000 on his daughter's Medical Transcription schooling course, and now she cannot find a Medical Transcription job. I work for a medical transcription firm that offshores their employees to India. I work out of an American office and my job is to manage the Indian employees, train them, edit and oversee their work(since English isn't their primary language, they don't have the best English grammar), and assign doctors and work assignments to them.

But that gives me an idea...you have a Business degree, right? Perhaps you would be well suited as a MANAGER for an offshored Medical Transcription company, as I do. It would give you more managerial, admin, and e-commerce skills than simply working as a typist/Medical Transcriptionist. The pay is fairly decent too. But for me, it's a full-time 9-5 job...so if you're only looking for part-time work or an extra $100-200, I don't know if this would fit your schedule.
