Default Job Hunting: How much is too persistent?

I've been sitting on SW all day waiting for a phone call (well between cleaning the house).

I really want this job with a friends company. The boss spoke to me last Friday and said to call back Monday when I'm done with class and we can meet sometime in the afternoon. My friend has been in contact with the boss and told me I basically have the job already and they aren't picky about hiring so the interview is more a formality.

I called, no answer, left a short message and I'm getting antsy waiting to hear back. I'm told the guy is kind of flaky and doesn't have a cell phone so he's bad with messages.

Would it be too much to call back in the afternoon and see if he picks up? I'm hoping it would show that I'm very interested. Or is that desperate and annoying?

He did ask me to call so I figured it was more of a convenience that I remind him.

This would be the perfect job for me. Argh!!! I'm so impatient.

From what I have heard, they would rather you call than not call at all. Just say you weren't sure if you had missed their call. This way you are showing interest without being annoying.

Yay! I didn't know if I was over reacting and just needed some reassurance that I wasn't being more obsessive than I normally am.

He said late afternoon so I'll give it another hour and call. Wish me luck! I'm hoping to do this part-time and strip part-time so I don't wear myself out.

I submitted a resume and never heard back from the company I work for now. Then I called and was given another name to submit my resume to, and I did. Then I ended up with two people getting in contact with me, and I work with them now, so obviously it worked.

    Good luck!

Be a try-hard. It works in many cases.

I worked in H.R. before and where I worked they HATED people who called back all the time. I was told NOT to hire anybody that called more than twice. It was weird, since I thought the norm was to call back as well.
