    Default face creams

so ever since i gave birth, my face has been oily AND dry, in the same spots. like on my nose, i am oily and dry and flaky. really annoying since every time i put on moisturizer i start braking out, but w/o it my face gets flaky and gross.

so does anyone know of any good not-to-expensive (as in over $20) moisturizers?
    Thanks!

I know it's a little pricey.... but I have the oily-dry thing going on too. This really helps and it doesn't feel heavy plus it seems to soak up any oil. Really a great product.

PapillonLuvr, I have combination skin like you described above and i'm very fair and sensitive to a lot of products. I'm a frugal bitch as well, and I love the Cetophil products you can find at any drugstore. They were created by a group of dermatologists and are wonderful for sensitive skin. Their mositurizers range from $12-17 per bottle.

hey op! I HAVE YOUR SKIN TOO!

i use clinique's dramatically different moisturizing GEL. this is as cheap as $11 to try it out. i buy it in the large pump though, because it is soooooo good to my skin!

try this before you spend a fortune!

also, the body shop's seaweed line = love! i don't have a body shop near me unless i'm in vancouver, so i don't get to get this as often as i'd like. try the seaweed mattifying day cream i am estimating the cost to be under $14. also, anything tea tree is good for ANY kind of skin, especially oily. the body shop has tea tree face creams as well.

I use good ol' cocoa butter. Never makes me break out at all. It's incredibly moisturizing and gentle. Right now I'm using the Jason's brand.. Got it at whole foods, and I think they have it at drug stores, too.

^^^ It doesn't make me break out, but I'm not a "breaking-out" type person, so I won't say that goes for everyone. I get a pimple on my face about once a year, and when I don't have cocoa butter with me, I'll put any old lotion on my face (e.g. tiny bottle of body lotion in my hotel room, scented stuff from bath & body works, etc.)

But anyway, make sure you get a good brand of the cocoa butter. Organic is best.

Retinol will get your skin back in line. Extra exfoliating can make the problem worse instead of better (I found this out the hard way), heavy moisturizers will cause breakouts.

Some good ones to try are Ponds dramatic results age-defying cleansing towelettes, or if it is really bad or accompanied by breakouts (as mine was during the first half of pregnancy) Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle intensive night cream (it will say deep wrinkle on the front).

Both of these really saved my skin. It was so bad I actually looked worse with makeup so I had pretty much given up hope when a friend recommended the Neutrogena to me. Best thing is it's under $20.

my skin has been helped a whole lot by

-washing with oil of olay night cloths (to clean off makeup and exfoliate)
-a coat of apple cider vinegar (for the pH/zits)
-a coat of glycerine (as a moisturizer)

my favorite thing is how crazy cheap it is.

glycerine (glycerol) is mild, but pretty effective. it's a main ingredient in a lot of moisturizers on the market. for under 3$, it's worth a shot. at least, that's what i was thinking when i got the idea to buy it a few months ago. i'm glad i did.

i don't think i used the age defying ponds towelettes, but i used a different kind, and they were not nice to my skin. made it flake and break out. the garnier ones were worse, though.

I'm starting to get wrinkles on my forehead so I'll have to give the Neutrogena stuff a try. Was going to try the Olay microdermabrasion thing too.

I think Philosophy's "Hope in a Jar" works pretty well. I have oily skin too and that moisturizer is really light and feels very soothing. I find it leaves my skin really balanced. It's not greasy and heavy.
