    Default Acne Vent

Okay - I just need to vent

My face...well my chin area has been breaking out this week....I'm so tired of battling with my skin and thinking I've got it under control for it only to come back with a vengence! These ones are actually annoying and hurt I don't even know what to do at this point. I think I'm going to take my energy and start praying that in my next life I have good skin!

    F**K YOU BAD SKIN GODS!!!!!

    (ok...I feel a little better)

Aw, I felt like that from ages 13-19. Then I discovered that my acne was related to certain things in my diet. Now I have clear skin. Different things work for different people.

I've heard that chin acne is usually hormonal. So something like BCP may help?

My acne cleared up when I went on birth control pills. Proactiv is pretty popular for this too.

Honey, just spend the money and go see a derm. Its usually a 100 dollar office visit fee, then the cost of prescriptions. Trust me, it is so worth it to not have to stress about your skin anymore. I only wish I had done it sooner.

Oh goodness....i've seen derm's off and on since I was 16! LOL! I most recently saw one about a year ago. Whatever they give helps a bit but nothing has ever cleared it completely. I've just become frustrated!

I did just switch birth control pills....from trilevlin to lybrel....I guess I'll have to monitor it to see if maybe the lybrel is causing this. I've been on it for 2 months and I can't really remember how my chin was before then. I have however been stressed this week due to grad school crap...so maybe it'll pass....

    BCP= Birth Control Pills

    RE: Derms

They are great for a lot of people, but they can't always help. I and some friends of mine are great examples of this. So go, but bear in mind there can be other methods if this fails.

Have you tried Accutane? If nothing else works...

If you can tolerate birth control pills, Yaz and Ortho Tri Cyclen work wonders for acne, particularly the hormonal variety that is usually located on the chin.

When I was on Yaz, I had lovely skin. But I was fucking miserable.

I can totally relate. My skin feels like a constant battle also. I've tried just about everything. The last derm I saw (I've been to about eight in the past three years), about a month ago, refused to give me a scrip for bactrim because it's a sulfa drug (wtf is that about), and insisted on me trying some *new* tetracycline crap. Even though bactrim is the ONLY thing that works for me.

I've requested accutane but doctors wont give it to me because my skin isn't bad enough, and I have a history of depression. very frustrating.

Same here. Nobody would prescribe accutane for me when I was younger because they said it wasn't bad enough to warrant such a nasty drug.

Problem is, now that I've outgrown it (haven't had a single one in a year or so) I have pitted and red scars that are so bad I feel as though I can't leave the house without corrective makeup. Seriously. Go see a dermatologist because you don't want to have scars worse then the zits that caused them.

Me too. I don't know what your diet is like but I've noticed a big difference by limiting my intake of white sugar and refined grains. Still not *perfect* but vastly improved.

I have problems with my skin too. Don't let it get u down too bad though, you are gorgeous baby and I never notice. Do you think you have been using a dirty cell phone? I notice when I forget to clean my cell phone I'll get a zit in that area and it sucks, because there is so much bacteria that gets on your cell phone. Then smushing it against your face is bad news too.

And I know what you mean about the dermatologist. And accutane might not be good for you because it can make you depressed and you can't go tanning! I dunno have you tried vitamins? You are probably stressed and that's why you're breaking out specifically on your chin.

food matters, but i've been a bit surprised what sorts are most problematic. mcd's hasn't given me problems, but i'll always get a zit or two within 24hrs of having wendy's.

the last few months, i've been using apple cider vinegar. i tried it just cos my skin had gotten really bad, and i was willing to try just about anything. it's helped so much. two months ago, i was surprised by my period, cos i hadn't gotten pms zits, even. try it twice a day when your skin is nasty, once before bed and once early in the day. once it looks better, just use it before bed. it's cheap and easy enough that it's worth a shot.

also, wash your pillowcase and put your hair up when you sleep.

Someone told me (on here I think) that an endocrinologist is actually the person to see for acne. Dermatologists only work on short term (very harsh) fixes using medication, but an endocrinologist can actually tell you what you can change in your diet and vitamin/mineral intake to help your overall chemical balance. Much more effective and safe, IMO.

It's easy to do an elimination diet if you suspect food is a factor. Go one month with everything the same, but cut out one type of food: refined sugars, then dairy, then wheat/grains, etc.

You have to be consistent and strict though, otherwise the experiment is pointless...

I've had this crap since I was 12....I'm 27. I have literally tried everything but accutane. Birth control doesn't work for me and neither does Proactiv. The only thing that does work for me is Persagel Benzoyl Peroxide, but it makes my skin dry and somewhat wrinkled and it dyes fabrics worse than clorox. I've been pairing my BP with a 5% Glycolic cream....works pretty well. I know my long thick hair is a contributor to my chest and bacne because I never used to breakout there before I danced or had it so long. And I know for a fact that jojoba oil and vitamin e oil clog my pores though they are supposed to be the best and E is in damn near everything. I'm still cleaning up the mess that jojoba oil made out of my neck skin back in January. I'm sort of lucky that I have small scars, but when you add up a million tiny scars you end up with a face that still looks kinda warped. I like to say that God had to make sure there was at least something wrong with me:p Food allergy tests is something I've never done. Should be worth a try.
    I'm sorry girl. I know!

I've always been confused by the diet issue because, as Lovesexmoney mentioned, a doctor will tell you one thing and then another acne source will tell you another. I'll have to pay more attention to what I eat. I'm honestly oblivious to what effects food have on me! LOL!

So maybe I should see an endocrinologist? I have this new insurance where I have to get referred to a specialist, so should I just tell my doctor I want to see an endocrinologist and not a dermatologist? Hopefully he won't give me a hard time about it. I guess it just seems wierd because everyone always tells you to see a derm for acne...

anyone tried solodyn for acne? My derm perscribed it, and when I picked it up yesterday, I had a $75 copay!! Without insurance, it would cost almost $500 Sounds like another pharmaceutical company scam, but I'm desperate.

Okay, I'm going to repost what has worked for me.
I,also, had acne BADLY from age ELEVEN until age 20; and slightly better after that until about 4 years ago when my back broke out again. I went to the derm for YEARS until I figured out that he couldn't help me for shit.

ANYway, here's what has worked/is now working for me; of course YMMV:

    1) Acrylic nails. - Don't really know why, maybe because I can't break the skin (to deposit bacteria)? But a week after I got my first set at 20, my acne had scabbed over and started to dissapear. MUCH better after that, just a few hormonal breakouts.

    2) MILK THISTLE and other cleansing herbs for your LIVER. - The endocrinologist suggestion is what goes along with this. Cleaning out your liver helps it process those hormones better and quicker, as well as getting any other toxins out of your body. Helped me immensely.

    3) Head & Shoulders for body acne - This does not work for everyone, and I still have a couple (two, exactly) bumps from time to time, but NOTHING like the all-over large crap I had prior to using this as a body wash. MIRACLE for me, however a couple of ladies here tried it with absolutely no success.

It took me a long time to realize that food was, for me, NOT the trigger - hormones were. Strangely, my BC didn't do a damn thing either; I think I may have an excess of testosterone, of all things (NO JOKES PULEEEZE!)! You need to get online and do some research; check your experiences against other people's symptoms, and see what diagnosis they came up with. The acne boards are great!

http://acne.org/ (main site with the regimen)

    http://acne.org/messageboard/ (the boards)

I can SO feel your pain, and hope you can find what works for you. I am so much happier going the natural route than all the steroids (I even had a steriod shot in my ass to try and help - NOTHING!) and manufactured creams. Tetracyclne, I am convinced, permanantley dried out my lips when I was taking it at an early age.

Even if you do decide it is a food trigger, flushing your system with a good cleanse or/and supplements will help with that also; getting rid of any residual buildup you may have.

Best of luck; please keep us posted. I'm always excited to see what works for others.

**On edit: I also wanted to add that I refined my cleansing/moisturizing routine; I actually do *less* than most people. I let my face alone most of the time, just cleaning once a day and putting on a very light moisturizer (it did take quite awhile for me to find one that worked just right). If you upset the acid mantle too much, your face will over-react by producing too much sebum/oil and then you have a breakout also. Don't do too much to your face; let it 'tell' you what it needs.

I went to see a dermatologist, very well known in my area because my breakouts were all located on my chin. He told me that the forehead is from hormones and the chin is from stress. he gave me samples of this gel called "Ziana" and in 2 days my chin was clear!! i am a firm believer of this med!

Hmmm the milk thistle thing makes sense, lildreamer316! Thanks for the suggestion. I wanted to incorporate this into my diet and now I have another good reason.
