I just vacuum mine. My mom says to dry mop them. I think it depends on the type of finish you have on your hardwood though. I know for mine I am not supposed to use any type of wax but on some you do.

My cleaning lady uses water and vinegar at times. Disinfects AND makes your house smell like a salad.

i use this stuff from trader joes. it's a green all purpose cleaner, i can't remember the name. but it's not chemical smelling.

i just spray some on the floor and use a microfiber dust mop thing. you can also just get a microfiber mop and use water only

Never mop hardwood! Well, you can if it's sealed, but it rarely is. Water seeps into the wood and stains it, and it will ruin your floor. Clean up spills with a towel and just a little bit of Windex, and rub it dry. Other than that just keep it swept and try to keep wet stuff off of it. The only way to get that shine back is to wax it, which is a huge ordeal.

If you're worried about slushy snow and other wet stuff, put down a thick rug in that spot, one you can throw in the wash when it needs it. Don't let people track puddles all over the hardwood floor or you will wind up with huge cloudy dark spots that you can't get rid of.

Get him some house shoes then. Nasty old shoes never come in, house shoes never go out. I have no idea why a person would want to wear shoes in the house, but this seems like a decent solution. Even Mr. Rogers changed his shoes when he came home.

Keep a pocketknife in your pocket. If he sets foot off the rug in his wet shoes, pull out the pocketknife and flip it open with a stern look. If he does it again, start slashing, babe!

vacumm and drymop just for dusting/cleaning, to bring back the shine you need to polish/wax the floor. actually we just did this, I'll try to see if we have the bottle still.....

we haven't done anything to the floors in 10+ years, and this stuff brought back the shine.
