Default for all you who ever breastfed...

Were you really hungry? Like you would eat a meal, and then still be ready for ANOTHER meal? And im talking like baked chicken with brown rice, veggies and some yogurt.
Cause I am starving like all the time. no matter how much I eat I still am hungry...go to bed hungry, wake up hungry, stay hungry all day. It's bad...
I've managed to keep my calories hovering around 1600/day, and that is a lot especially since I am trying so hard to lose weight but I'm not because 1600 is too much for me and it's keeping me where I am. I need to cut back by about 200 cal./day to lose some since I am working out as well, but I am sooo hungry. And it's not that Im thirsty since I drink a hell of a lot of water (on top of hungry im thirsty a lot too!).
is it just a breasfeeding thing? or something else perhaps? idk and my doc. didnt help just said to eat if im hungry lol. whatever if I did that right now I'd weigh like 200lbs.

Yes, you will be hungrier than normal. According to this site: http://www.breastfeeding.com/all_abo...se_weight.html breastfeeding burns 600 calories a day. That's like skipping 1.5 meals! So of course it's going to make you feel hungrier because your body is accustomed to having those extra calories. The recommended intake for breastfeeding mothers is 2200 calories per day (from what I remember). How long have you been bf'ing? If you're only taking in 1600 calories a day, and bf'ing burns 600 of them, you should start loosing pretty soon.

Listen to your body and eat when you're hungry. Breastfeeding can be very draining on the body. Do you snack often? How's the little one?

1600 calories is way to low for a breastfeeding mother. No wonder your hungry!

My aunt (who's only a couple years older than me) had twins about 5 years ago. She used to have to wake up in the middle of the night to eat! I think it's perfectly normal. Listen to your body, as others are saying!

Huh - I was definitely thirsty! I'd have to have a big glass of water next to me when I nursed her.
I didn't have time to eat enough calories when I exclusively breastfed. Even with Jess making me some of my meals, it was so difficult to eat because I was dealing with Kembra ALL THE TIME.
Even now, I hardly get to eat anything because I simply don't have time.
I eat maybe twice a day. It's bad, I know.

I ate all i wanted one day and it was like 2700 calories. waaaayyy too much. I guess maybe I just need to find some sort of balance. And yep, I snack. Im a bit of a grazer lol. Luckily Aradia is eating plenty-she eats every two hours almost exactly, and at night every 3-4 hours. She's gaining weight right on schedule too. It's so draining. I cant wait till she starts solids.

Yes! I was super hungry, especially in the beginning. In an effort to not over eat, I would try to wait as long as possible before eating (because I wasn't getting alot of physical activity) and I would actually start to feel faint, but a different kind of faint from how I have felt being hungry before. Not a good idea, so I don't recommend trying this.

Eat when you're hungry, but make your food count. Instead of junk food, eat veggies, fruits, things that your body can really use to nourish you and your baby.
