I did it yo!!!!
It was pretty excellent!
Except you could tell the east coast train was the east coast train. I <3 the Southwest Chief!
I'd do it again for sure, tho 2 days was a leeeeetle long...but it was my big fat idea so I couldn't really complain!
Towards the end of the first train I talked to a cool dude from Chicago who was coming from San Fran and is basically going to retire soon bc he has struck it rich selling weed, and on the way back a really awesome chick was my seatmate and we had a lot in common....moving to NM at an early age and general personality traits. She's an artist and hopefully a hiking buddy in the future....
The world was SOOOO bleak and desolate being winter and stuff and I'm really happy I'm here in the sunny southwest and don't know how I ever spent my life on the east coast before![]()
I read SOOOO MUCH BOOKS and listened to tonnnnnz of music and thank god they had chargers there!
Of course the reward was meeting sexy sw'ers so O HELL YES.
I didn't get to take pics of some of the best things I saw, including the observation car on the Southwest Chief (floor to ceiling windows!), the true bleakness and icicles of Indiana (what the HELL) IN was the bleakest of them all! I just wanted to run crying to AndyGirl's house!!!
And most importantly.....NO CREEPS! Can you believe it! In fact I noticed there were many people like me.....introverted, seemingly happy to escape the world for a few days....
Apparently this town is right outside of Santa Fe. NEVER HEARD OF IT. lol.
My comfortable seat on the way out there! Not the best pic tho.
whoahhh just looking at pics like these are giving me SAD panic attacks...
Midwest somewheres
500 page books and stoner boy's necklace in the lounge car. It was kind of a poor choice of LONG ASS books, bc this one could have been edited. It was alright in case yr wondering, and will make you feel better about yr life.
Kansas! EchoMadison!
Anyone know where this is?
East coast train! (COULDJA TELL) I started to fall asleep here and they told me I couldn't shut my eyes while charging my appliances. BOOOOO. It was literally impossible to sleep on the east coast train.
train folk, "lounge" car on the eastbound train
I apologize, but the Appalachian mountains of WV were SCAAAAARYYYYY (this pic is not so bad tho)
The Berkshires of Massachusettes! Hi Rozz and Sauske!! This is where I got on the train on the way back home, we had a vacation at a spa near Lennox, was sooo nice, but I FROZE. MY. BALLS. OFF. How do ya'll do it?
yayyy Berkshires
mmmmm James Taylor country.... "with 10 miles behind me, and 10,000 more to go"
Look, NM is really in the USA!
Yay! Thanks for posting, I love train trips too!

Oh hell yeah, trains are great! I love the bar car especially, and the reading, and the comfortable seats.
I'd rather train than fly, but the time factor can be crucial, and it's generally as expensive as flying so I fly instead.
Great pictures--I'm glad you had fun!

haha, what train did you take?
i guess once again i have visions that are actually of the olden days instead, like a bar car with an actual bar and bartender and all night poker games and john candy and his band singing polka like in home alone!
you could buy a can of bud for 5 bucks, or have a cocktail in the dining car (damn, more interesting pics i missed out on)

Well to be sure some bar car nights have been better than others, I'm usually there in the middle of the night a lot. I've never seen one with an actual bartender, but there is someone selling all the snacks and the drinks and the beer.
You are making me want to take a train trip! Aren't there blanket ticket passage rates? Like 500$ and you can travel all over or something??
