    Default Ripoff Contractors

So this guy, a friend of someone in the mobile park property, fixed my roof (overcharging me, & leaving a dent) damage, then fixed my siding above a window. < which I had a lot of problems w/rain coming in, previously. I wrote a letter to his friend, & left it on her door. She promised he'd stop by the other day, which of course he did not. I called him yesterday & left a message. He simply did a shitty caulk job, & did not bother to come back & even look at it. I have his business card w/2 phone #'s on it, anything I can do? Not talking a huge amount of $, but still. I have ordered & paid for siding strips to be delivered this Mon. & have another guy set to do the work.

^^^ if the outfit doing the work isn't a licensed contractor ... merely a friend of a 'friend' ... your recourse options are extremely limited.

And never ever pay them until they are done and you are completely satisfied with the work. Contractors are infamous for getting people to pay them before they finish and then getting them back is next to impossible.

Recently I had a guy doing my floors and he was a nice enough guy. He did everything except the sealer because he had to wait a day until the grout dried, and then it was the weekend. He asked for me to pay him all but $100 or so (that's how much he estimated the sealing portion was). I told him no, I was going to withhold the remaining $1,000 until it was all finished. Getting a subcontractor to come back and finish is a lot easier when you owe them a lot of money. Of course he finished first thing Monday morning (he did a good job too, btw).
