    Default Ashland, OR

I are here. I love it to death. I never want to leave. So anybody want to meet me?

Paris, when can I drive up and have lunch with you?

Sarge, what were those restaurants you were talking about? I did a search but I can't find where you posted the info. You mentioned something about a bitchen dance club too, what was it?

And the swinger thread got me wondering if anyone knows of any fun sexy swinger stuff in this corner of the world. K says there is a phenomenally beautiful female population here, so where do we find the easy ones who like couples?

Welcome to Oregon! Ashland is lovely; enjoy it.

I think that there is a club off of the interstate in Grants Pass called Club 71 (near exit 71, natch). If you get a chance, scout it out; I haven't driven past when it's been open. I don't know if there is still a lot of fishing going on down there but if so it might be worth checking out.

Good to know, thank you. I'm hoping to work at that club in Medford and I'll call them later today about an audition, but it's good to have a backup. I appreciate it.

OMG, I LOVE ASHLAND. Right now I'm listening to live folk music (so far Irish and Jewish, LOL) in an adorable coffee shop, and the weather is glorious, and the view of the mountains and the autumn trees is just to die for. We're staying in a wonderful little cottage with a full kitchen, private backyard, and a huge jacuzzi bathtub, and K stocked up the fridge with plenty of fruit and cheese and bought me some coffee and chocolate soymilk. Later on I'll go check out the hippie-healthy grocery co-op and see if it's as good as the one in Bozeman. K was right, after half an hour in Ashland I decided to never leave. The plan was to go home to L.A. after Thanksgiving but now I might stay through the rest of K's show and just hang out here!

It's so nice to hear that you're so happy there. It's Oregon's crunchy little hippie town! The funny thing is that it is also a HUGE retirement destination; a lot of those apartment complexes on the edge of town are actually assisted living facilities. So, hippies, theater folk, and retirees. An interesting mix.

Lets see there is the Black Sheep (a pseudo English pub) it is the double red doors on the Plaza. The Plaza BTW is the funny little triangle shaped park right down town. The burrito place is called Senor Sams it is at the south end of town. Take the turn like you were driving to Emigrant lake on Hwy 66; its in the little shopping plaza with the Wendy's and the movie theater. Speaking of movies the old theater down town usually shows independent and foreign films. Did you go to Pucks donuts? Its beside the funny little ramp the locals call the beaver slide down town. Early in the morning you can follow your nose.

Have you been inside the Shakespeare museum? It's on main street. You will love the chance to see and feel the costumes up close.

The club with dancing and 80's music on Thursdays is Ground Zero. That is in Medford on central. The strip club is called the Office now. Changes names every two years though.

Wander through Lithia park, the free concerts are probably over, its nice though. Bring some bread for the ducks and swans if they are still there.

Watch out for bikes, loads of people ride bicycles there and come out of nowhere.

There is excellent Thai and Viet food in town but I forgot which street, and a Sushi place near the Albertsons. There is more than one health food and hippy Co-op, try the one on Oak street. The steel factory behind it is now a artisit studio and gallery.

For further out there entertainment. Often there are street performers or one group or another protesting something in the plaza.

Told you that you would love it.

The jazz lounge in the Marc Antony hotel (Lithia Springs hotel now) and the Kat Wok were the gay bars when I lived there. There is more than one Gay and Lesbian alliance there. Look them up in the phone book and just ask. Ashland is pretty open.

Thank you both! I haven't done anything yet except the coffee shop and I wandered through the co-op, but I'm going to go back out once I do some more writing and just explore for awhile. K is working today so I'm just enjoying the solitude, and I figure we'll go out tonight to a bar somewhere. He's been to that Black Sheep place already and he likes it. He also found us some very decent Chinese food yesterday. Okay, off to write some more so I can go out...

^Ashland is like 5 hours from Portland

But welcome to Oregon Yek! I adore Ashland, its so much fun. I grew up an hour or so away. If you like Mediterranean type food, you HAVE to try the restaurant Pilaf! Its one of my favorite restaurants. It has great ambiance and terrific food. Its right on the plaza, so Lithia Park is right there!

I've never been to the Medford strip club, but I know girls that work there. They alternate between there and Eugene. Most of them seem to like it.

I'm told Portland is about four hours away. We'll be in Portland on an apartment-hunting mission at some point, so I will definitely let you know when we head up that way!

What have you heard about the swing club, needtodance?

And ooh, that restaurant sounds great, I LOVE Mediterranean food!

I told you. It is love at first sight. Did you look at the community bulletin boards in the public library and in the plaza yet. May find a writers group or other Artist outlet.

Several couples I've danced for have tried persuading me to go with them... They thought it was really cool, really special to go. That it was SO completely far removed and out of the ordinary from a normal night club, with rooms and areas for special fetishes or fantasy's.... Said it was ALWAYS a blast. But I don't know a lot of specifics ads to what the scene is like, to know if you'd have luck finding a couple friendly hot girl. And its the only Swinger club that I've heard of, so they probably don't have all that much to compare it to...

But yeah, let me know when you're in the area! I'm not working that much, comparatively speaking, so we should be able to find time for lunch or something. Although this means I must get my ass to the grocery store, to get materials to make some sort of welcome dessert for you guys! Nobody has any food allergies?

I have a friend who used to 'volunteer' there back in her very nympho days. She said that it's a good envirnoment and everyone's respectful and that there is security. And hot tubs and a buffet. NEver went myself but sounds like good times.

Some of us hippies ARE retirees now. Peace, man.

I'm just inexplicably happy that you're there. Portland and all of Oregon - I just love 'em so much. Can't wait until my next visit - it's been far too long! And now you'll be there too!!!

I bet you'll love the shakespeare festival that happens every year.

Most of the stuff I know of is in Portland as far as swinger stuff goes which is lame since I'm not super close either, but I'm sure you'll find something. I don't think Ashland is far from Eugene, there's got to be some stuff going on there!

Well, we're not staying in Ashland. K is here working so I'm hanging with him and working too, and then we're going back to L.A. to pack up all our shit. We'll be moving to Portland after the New Year. I wish we COULD stay in Ashland, but K needs to be closer to Portland for work stuff and the airport. C'est la vie.

Oh, and sassy, when we do move to Portland I want to take your pole class!

    woohoo!! yeah! another pdx'er!

i know you'll like portland way better than l.a.

what i like about portland, is that even though it's one big city, it's like it's "cut up" in to different ones. you have the trendy yuppy section, the trendy "granola" section ( i call them yippies, get it, yuppie, hippie, HA!), the just straight up "granola" section, regular everyday folks section, etc etc...

do you know what area you're moving to yet? gonna be right in portland or in a suburb?
