I don't know yet. We want to come up on a reconnaissance mission sometime soon; a few of the crew on K's show have offered to take us around to show us different neighborhoods. Personally, I would like a funky artsy district where I can walk to most everything, preferably within walking distance of a farmer's market, and if it's near Powell's so much the better. Where should we go?

You have to let me show you around the Clinton/Division neighborhood, because you should live there! It's where I am .

As far as Ashland, it is gorgeous isn't it! There was a really good nuevo latin type place near the shakespeare stages, but I can't remember the damn name. it was good though.

If you want to check out Eugene, and maybe meet up with me and Paris (if she's down), I'm going to be there over Thanksgiving.

I've never checked out Ace of hearts, but I've always been curious. I'm just afraid it would be ugly people or something.

LOL, maybe since K has to work the next day, I should go to the swing party with you two!

I don't know where we'll be for Thanksgiving, but K's best friend is in Eugene so maybe we'll go to his house. I don't care as long as I can cook. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and it will ruin my whole year if I don't get to make rummy sweet potatoes and cheesy broccoli rice casserole and tons of cornbread dressing... maybe we can have a little post-Thanksgiving get together after you guys are done with the family thing?

I'm off in search of decent pizza in Ashland, I'm craving it today...

I was actually thinking friday for hanging out in Eugene. If you're into it. I'll be tired of my family by then, and we could go have lunch or hit up a small town titty bar or something. My boyfriend would appreciate the break from my family also.

Okay Sassysummer, you're on. Time for a stripperweb swinger meet up. I'm always ready to get my perv on. We can pretend we're hot lezzys. Wait, why'd I say pretend...?

Oh yeah. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but the recipe is mine, and they will make you see G-d. My uncle keeps nagging me to enter them in the fair. Try making them this year, you'll like them... they work really well with vegan substitutes like margarine and soymilk too. I actually like them a little better with vanilla soymilk.

    Found it! Shazam!

For those wondering what I'm going on about:

    Doesn't that sound heavenly?

(I plan to desecrate them, though, by serving them alongside the dreaded jellied cranberry from a can. Still in its natural can-shape.)

Oh man, did I say half a cup of sugar? You can do that if you want sweet dessert-type ones, but last year I cut that in half and they were better. I'm considering skipping the white sugar entirely this year just to see if it's still good.

^^ Duly amended in my saved file on the sugar. I'll start with 1/4 cup of the white stuff.

    *lassoing thread drift*

    . . . So, how's about that Ashland, Oregon?

ok. that sounds faqntastic yek! I'm adding it to my turkey day menu. I love the vegan (kosher!) option

how strong is the rum taste? I want a mild-medium taste...... it sounds like that from the quantities, but i just wanna check. I don't do test runs!

sorry, I'm a super thread jacker today!

It's got a distinct rum flavor but not an overpowering one. If you think it might be too much you can cut back on it, but be aware that cooking takes the alcohol out. When I make this, people walk in the kitchen, sniff, and yell, "DAMN, how much rum did you PUT in that?" But most of it cooks out so you can still taste the sweet potatoes and the butter and streusel.

And yeah, I started making it vegan for kosher purposes. Yay for nondairy buttery goodness!

Edit: D'oh, it's not vegan, it has eggs. So it's parve, but not vegan unless you know of a vegan egg substitute. Maybe applesauce would work, Rose? That wouldn't interfere with Lola's parve version though!

Hmm, that's a tough one. Well, in this recipe the eggs serve as more of a thickener, right? I think? Applesauce is better for replacing oil to lower fat. I think applesauce would make it too moist here. Same with silken tofu, which can sub very well for eggs in baked goods, but here I think it'd just make for too much moisture.

BUT! I suggest experimenting with ground flaxmeal. I know it sounds weird, but it is a legit substitute for eggs when binding/thickening is needed, and as long as it's finely ground (preferably the golden kind, too, not the dark brown regular variety), the texture might not be intrusive.

WARNING: the above is just a hypothetical. highly experimental suggestion. Not road-tested. The texture could be grainy and weird. But ya never know . . . I want to give this a try myself!

Well, I have no problem with free-range eggs, so I'm gonna stick with that. If you try the flaxmeal though, let me know! I'm curious about that, I've never used flaxmeal. But I've completely gotten over my tofu incompetence and am now cooking it with reckless abandon nearly every day, so it's entirely possible I could learn to love flaxmeal too!

Hey try breakfast at the "Breadboard". Thats a funky little hippie type breakfast and lunch place going North out of Ashland toward Medford. Awesome pies there. It has a Patio and has nice views of Billings farm below.
