    Default HOw importan are poles?

Is it something that is a must to know how to do tricks? Most places I go the girls just use them for what I thought was balance or to do the what I call "there is no place like home" heel tap so the booty shakes , never seen any actual tricks like you guys have posted. Just curious

Some girls do them, some girls don't, at least from what I've seen. It looks cool but I don't think it's super important, and I don't see them make a significant amount more on stage because of it.

It's a geographical thing. I see that you're in Jersey and your experiences mirror mine. I danced for two years in NJ and never learned even the simplest pole trick. It never affected my money since guys came to the club to play amateur gynecologists rather than to appreciate acrobats. In Manhattan 90% of the clubs don't have poles since they are considered "trashy". What ever....

I'm certain that in other parts of the country poles have a different degree of significance.

Poles and polework aren't necessary at all. In fact, sloppy pole work actually takes away from some otherwise hot dancers, IMO. Just like stripping, there are some girls who think they can do pole work and just look ridiculous doing it. I'm one of those girls, so I haven't even bothered for years.

I agree. I would say that only 25% of the girls I work with do any kind of pole work. I do extensive polework, but thats just because I like it! I definitely don't make any more money because of it.

I'm with Glamazon. I don't even boter with the pole for anything other than leaning against or hold onto now and then. I just look silly doing anything else with it.

But I have seen some women do pole work that is mesmorizing, beyond doing tricks on it and hanging upside down. It's art really. I don't know if it helps their money but it sure is neat to watch!

I am going to ask another question, shoes, now how long did it take you guys to not look like you had cinder blocks on your feet? How can they be more comfortable? I am so pathetic for asking. You know I'm not a dancer but I like to entertain my husband and I have about 6 pairs of dancer shoes and I can walk on almost all but these...

I get a lot of pain on my calves. Now how can you guys stand working in these shoes?

The shoes you have in the photo aren't really meant for dancing. A hot date, maybe some secretary work, etc. They aren't meant for an 8 hour shift gyrating and twirling. No ma'am.

If shoes fit well they don't look or feel like cinder blocks. I love wearing heels that are in the 8" plus range. As long as the shoe fits snugly I never feel like they are hanging off my feet or weighing me down.

I guess to answer your question I will have to break out the cliche. Practice makes perfect. Wear em till you feel confident and hit your stride (pun intended).

I got those in NY at a sex shop, across form, oh hell don't remember the name of the club now, it was a while ago. I got a new pair not too long ago and actually my baby has more fun with them than I do! no seriously my 2 year old, he loves them! But they kill my pinky! They are from the Hustler collection, hubby went for a business trip down there and he saw the store and got me a very cute pair. They are white platforms with pink band and white polka dots. They have like a"support" think for the toes but hmmm kills me.

Maybe 10% of girls in my club do anything with the pole besides using it to walk around or hold onto while they bend over. I rarely do anything on the pole, but I don't know how to do much, so that's why... But when girls climb up and do something, they usually get a great crowd response.

^ Yes I like doing pole work for a crowd response, but unfortunately I'm not that great at it.
I would say that your conversation/eye contact/overall looks are WAY more important to your money than mastering pole tricks. Being comfortable with the customers makes you money in terms of dances and VIP sales - pole tricks are good for stage tips but the majority of your income is going to be selling VIP/champagne/lapdances.

SO to make money you have to do private dances. In Fl they aren't really private, for $20 the girl would dance for you, well for me right there near the stage but here in Jersey you go to another room. I not too long ago went to Frank's Chicken House, yeah well I wanted to see and had a private dance but not really I just wanted to learn how to do some moves and it's this little room off to the side and oh the girls seem so uncomfortable and the guys are looking so creepy, if I ever got the courage to dance I don't think I could do a private.

    TOTALLY agree.

And HHL, you're a featured member, but I'm confused, have you danced before? I would expect that the majority of your money should come from private dances and champagne rooms, not from stage money. But I guess that could depend on your club, and how you work...

No I am not a dancer hon. I love strippers and want to own a SC some day but you guys seem to think, well some of you, seem to think that I might be able to make some good money. I'm a mom, my husband works 70 hrs a week and we are money tight. I don't have any skills, nor did I go to college for anything and I want to help out because I see my husband fall asleep on his desk all the time and it's killing me.

How about a server? do they make good money? My husband game a kiss and hug just now cause I asked him "how would you feel if I danced?" and he said "honey I appreciate what you are trying to do but how about a server?" I think he would be uncomfortable with me almost nude dancing.

Everyone does some kind of pole tricks at my club. Well, almost everyone. But I work in a state where people still make a lot of money on stage. I've seen some great dancers that never touch the pole though, and bank, so I don't think it has a whole lot to do with how much money you make. It's certainly not required.

I've waitressed in SCs for a few years, and I still do sometimes cuz I bank at it. It can be really good money if you're cute and a good waitress. You might try it out before you try dancing. Then you can be in the club and get to know your surroundings before you jump into dancing. I waitressed since 2005 and didn't dance until this summer. Don't get me wrong, dancing can be sooo lucritive (sp?), the most money I ever made was dancing. But I waitress a few times a week cuz I average $200-$300 waitressing and I like it. I like to mix it up, and I don't have to make $500 a night to pay my bills.

HHL, may I just say you are effin' adorable? I've seen pics of you, and if I was at a club I would give you money.

And for the record, only about half of the clubs I go to have poles. The club I was just at had one on a side stage, but not on main stage. Then again it also had a ceiling so low I could touch it without my shoes on (I'm only 5ft2in), so that may have been part of the reason why...

My five year old thinks my platforms are rocket blasters (his words not mine). He'll run around the house holding on to the heel and shooting aliens with them. I try not to let him get ahold of them anymore though.

I refuse to work without a pole since it's a big part of my stage show. Audiences in the Midwest really dig seeing neat pole tricks.
However, the aches and pains from pole dancing suck...I can see how some girls are happy to forgo pole dancing.

Among the top 20-30 dancers I have seen as far as putting on a riveting performance, I'd say about half seriously messed with the pole. I think they would have banked anyway, but they had incorporated it into their routine. In that sense I suppose it made them money, indirectly at least.

Then there have been a few whose pole work definitely helped them, the ones with really spectacular grace and aesthetic skill.

But what really matters, of course, is:

conversation/eye contact/overall looks are WAY more important to your money than mastering pole tricks.
It must be said that confidence will make you money, and pole tricks do help many women develop confidence. It's also impressive and profitable as a way to combat boredom on a slow night. Then if someone coyly trying to hide a fat wallet walks in and sees a dancer doing acrobatics on the pole while everyone else--the entire staff of the bar, lol--is ready to go home, guess who he will be more likely to spend money on?
