    Default Producing too much oestrogen?

I am a person who tends to produce a lot of oestrogen naturally- my mother and grandmother were the same (high levels of fertility, long, heavy periods, etc). I'm fine with this- I know that oestrogen protects the bones, and I've struggled with anorexia in the past, so I'm conscious of bone health.

However, the last couple of months have been insane as far as hormones go. I've been menstruating every three weeks and spending ten days before each period blown up like a beached whale- I never used to gain more than a kilo in bloat before each period, and I've never had ten days of PMS before. I've also gained quite a bit of weight these last couple of weeks (not sure if it's bloat or not- I only just got my period late last night and these last two cycles I've been spending the first day of my period in a state of bloat also). It may not be bloat- the weight is everywhere this time as opposed to just being around my stomach area, like it would usually be if it was only bloating. The thing is, I haven't been eating more. I've been much less hungry and have been eating quite a bit less than usual. I have been at a healthy weight for a long time and the extra is really bothering me.

Does anyone know what I can do about this or if it's worth going to see a gynocologist, or even a Chinese herbalist? I'm starting to worry that I might have polycystic ovaries or some such.

P.S.- Eric, I know you mean well, but I really don't want to hear about Paleo diets or the like. Given my ED history, it's really not an appropriate option for me. Exercises, sure, but dieting, no. Also, I do not want to end up producing too little oestrogen, either- I am osteopenic as it is thanks to having twice had anorexia.

I would see your gyno soon. If things are worse than usual then there is a change in your body and you need to investigate. I'm sure a gyno can test for all kinds of things.

I might make an appointment after my exams, I guess. Thanks for your advice.

By the way, I'm still open to other suggestions and ideas of what the problem might be, if anyone has any.

I have PCOS, and it annhilates my estrogen levels. I grow chin hairs and don't get my period, unless I'm on synthetic hormones (oh, lovely, I know...but hormones-in-a-pill give me boobs and get rid the acne/ hair so I'm cool with it).

I know PCOS women have extra high levels of androgens...It does make 50% of women with the disease obese (!!!...I have nightmares of that, but fortunately I'm a rare case that doesn't gain weight from it, thank mary)...But that's due to insulin resistance, not estrogen.

So what you're describing sounds like the opposite of that. It might be an ovarian cyst though...just not polycystic, know what I mean? It might not hurt to see a gyno. Have you ever been on the pill?

I was on the pill very briefly when I was 18, but stopped because it made my breasts huge and very sore.

I googled polycystic ovaries today and then realised that I couldn't have it because, as you say, it involves missing periods and I seem to have the opposite issue.

    Fennel tea will help bloating.

But get it checked out, but for herbal help there's sisterzeus online, and bloodmoonherbs on LJ. Or PM Lena on here.

Get natural progesterone from the health food store. its in lotion form. then simply rub a dab on your inner arms starting the fifteenth day after your period. then emediatly stop using it as soon as you start to bleed again. There ya go

    ^^

Eh. Problem went away when I became more moderate with my dairy, gained some muscle and lost some fat (by switching exercise programs and supplementing).
