Thread: Picky Eaters

I did that once because I ordered my steak medium and they brought it out to me more or less like steak tartare. I think they had a mix-up or something but I tried to be sugar sweet about it.

My ex-roommates were SO FUCKIN WEIRD!! They couldn't eat in a restaurant with ugly servers. Every single place we went, they would bitch about the food and make a fuss to get some discounts. And once they said the food was "so bad" that they were entitled to walk out on their bill. Talk about embarassing...

The food presented to her was not as she ordered and expected and I would have supported her decision. That's just me. If we are on a date then my tacit understanding is that I am your friend and you are mine and we are together even if but for a while. I'm like anyone else though, I have my limits. But I like that she has enough care for herself to ask for the things she wants. Obviously, in my mind I'd be too much a slob to keep her happy and I sure as hell would not want to find out how perfect I'd need to be in the sack. LOL!! I'm thick, talk a little too much and slow.

I hate when someone does that to a steak. Definitely makes them lose points in my mind. If you're going to order a steak, eat it right!! Medium rare all the way.

I don't think I could date someone who was really picky eater. I had a roommate that was like that and going out to eat was not enjoyable at all. Ang going out to eat is one of my fave things to do, so if I can't enjoy that with the person....

I can't stand it when people are so finicky about their food. I've been known to eat stuff that wasn't even what I ordered if it looked good.

It really bugs me when people send food back and it makes me a bit embarassed in front of the server if the food gets sent back because of some minor percieved defect. That is a major pet peeve.
i didnt read this whole thread, but here's my 2 cents. just because it looked fine to you doesnt mean it's ok for her. and obviously it wasn't. me, i dont think ive ever sent something back. but i am a very picky eater. im expanding more these days, and i can probably find SOMETHING on the menu almost anywhere, but if i thought something was cooked to the point where i couldnt eat it, i wouldnt eat it.

If they end up torching the South Rim lodge, or despoiling a perfectly formed steak, it's a federal law that they've violated, not Arizona state law. Since not all states have National Parks or federally-protected lands, they've committed a federal crime within a state, and will be prosecuted in US Federal Court. Hence the comment about "federal crime in some states."

So you're saying that, if the object of a federal law doesn't exist in a particular state and, therefore, the potential to break a given federal law doesn't exist in that state, that violating said law would not be a federal crime.

Sorry, too far out on the fringe to be a valid arguement. I haven't been in a state yet that doesn't have steak. And, while I'm sure there are laws that pertain to steak, I doubt that any on the federal level are aimed at regulating the degree to which meat can be overcooked.

No, I'm saying that the object of a federal law (the steak) does exist in a territory under federal jurisdiction (Grand Canyon National Park) within a state (Arizona) that has no jurisdiction in the park. Hence, it is a violation of a federal, not a state, statute there.

Since not all states have territories under federal jurisdiction, it makes sense to say that it's a federal crime in some states.

Whew. A long way to go for something that was not intended to be taken seriously in the first place. BTW, shouldn't we move this to the "What to major in to get into law school" thread?

I love steak, but I have totally given up ordering one at any restaurant that does not specialize in steak. I also won't bother unless it's Prime or Kobe. There is no reason why a steak house would over cook since they do it often, control temperature, time, and thickness of the cut. But if you order at a general restaurant, good luck with that.

I definitely judge people by how they treat the waiter/waitress at a restaurant, although returning something is not necessarily a black mark if they show consideration for the waiters feelings.

And to those who said medium??? What's the point??? A-fucking-men.

This is too important. I can't let it go. I'm still thinking that it would be a federal crime in all states, but for various reasons, such as a particular state not having a national park in which to burn your meat, the opportunity to commit the crime may not exist in all states. That would not eliminate the law, only the opportunity to break it. You'd understand this better if you had spent your formative years in a Catholic elementary school under the oppressive tutilege of the good Sisters of Immaculate Discipline.

Well, I think the fact that the "quote" leads to some random post of mine that says nothing of the kind speaks for itself

No one with any class orders a steak medium well!
Agreed. All the flavor in red meat is in the blood; if you cook that out of the meat, you're intentionally extracting all the flavor.

We've tried to take a bit of a hiatus recently, allowing Mast and Rose to take center stage, Kat to catch us all up on her sex life, Djoser to slap down every guy who is not "in the industry" and Sh0t to assure us everything we believe is dead wrong.
That's pretty damn funny, right there.

I love steak, but I have totally given up ordering one at any restaurant that does not specialize in steak.
Agreed. For Boston residents/visitors, I strongly recommend Abe and Louis' on Boylston. If you're in Seattle, the Metropolitan Grill (3rd and Madison, if I recall) is the best.

As for sending food back, I never do it; you never know what you're going to get back. I just don't eat and don't return, though I will let the server know and not penalize them for the mistakes of the kitchen staff. I mean, seriously, when you ask for a filet mignon rare or cold and blue, how friggin' hard is it to do that? Any place that can't isn't worth revisiting or patronizing.

Now at any moment, Sh0t should be along to reenergize the infamous Strippers or Waffles? thread from the Blue Side.

Do you really think I'd dream up some quote out of the blue and attribute it to you? You would fucking kill me!

Why the arrow points to some random blue-side quote is beyond me. [Since been removed]

Since the forum only has your last 500 posts, it won't have this one. The quote here was from a post of yours right after SF Vegas I (Memorial Day weekend 2006) during a discussion about tipping. I was talking about the amounts I spend in clubs and what I expect in return, which is very little. After a lot of back and forth eventually, probably out of exasperation, you said, "Well there are no other guys like you in strip clubs. Except you."

I remember it as clear as day, because you trounced me in the debate with that one.

If you don't recall this, or if you want me to remove it anyway, just let me know and of course I will.

OK, I've updated the blue link pointer to point to the second time Bridgette mentioned it. Can't for the life of me find the first one. That should resolve the confusion.

And, just FYI for the discussion in the thread, no, I hadn't the slightest objection to whatever Djoser wanted to do.

Since I was voted an "industry insider" in the most recent thread for funding the site for the last two years, I won't take much offense.

It looks like Paige is going to have to change her sig line!

Dude. That quote says nothing of the sort either. It's YOU saying it, once again. And I was saying in that quote that Djoser is different LOL! But whatever. How about just dropping the stupid sig? I never found where I posted that when I first saw the thing months ago, and if it is there and that buried, it's f'n pointless anyway.

To be clear, I do remember saying something to that affect VERBALLY at the first Vegas SF in a very specific convo about stripclubs. But the way you have it quoted is a quite out of context and not the way it was meant. I guess that's the nature of quotes though. ha
