Sob Stories

As customers, we've all encountered it at one time or another. Strippers telling you sob stories in the hopes of selling a dance, extending dance sessions, receiving sympathy tips, etc. Needing to pay bills or saving for a boob job are pretty standard ones. Share some of the outlandish sob stories you've received.

Two come to mind for me. One stripper was telling me about how she had been hiding from her previous landlord for months and had just been served. She was being sued for damages to the unit, had only $15 in her bank account and needed money to pay thousands in repairs.

Another which happened a couple weeks ago was a stripper telling me her step brother had been arrested for having a gun in his car (which wasn't his of course and he was taking the rap for his friend) and she was trying to earn enough to pay his bail. That's one I hadn't heard before.

Lets see,

• I need $$$ to pay rent, please help me (variations - utilities, baby formula, car payments, medical bills, tuition, whatever)
  
• My boyfriend will beat me unless I bring home "X" dollars...
  
• Trying to move to a new place, away from abusive roommates ( variations - new state, hidden undisclosed location, stalkers, drug dealers, bleah)
  
• I have a child to support, these others girls will just spend it on drugs...
  

Bah, and then the next week they are bragging about the new car, coat, whatever they just bought...

I just listen and try be supportive, but really its just a guaranteed way to get me to not spend money.

i don't categorize it as a mood killer. i guess i'm indifferent. my whole outlook about SS is to laugh, shake my head and say,"well, you know these girls".

I recall one dancer telling me about how she was supporting her mother (as well as all of her brothers and sisters) because her mother needed some type of surgery and couldn't work. It was quite pathetic, her using that story I mean, not the family troubles, it didn't work on me either.

I've actually been pretty lucky with avoiding the sob stories.

The closest one was needing to make money to get the new 4-Runner ASAP because it was the only white one in all of Vegas Toyota dealer's inventory. To be honest, I don't really even know if it should be considered a sob story because she was cool to get dances from.

A former favorite once ended our time together by spotting an auto-body repair shop dealer she'd given dances to in days past and told me that she wanted to go talk to him because her car door was scratched and that she wanted to work out a business arrangement with him.

I laughed and said that was fine. She then went over him as I left the club.

Another dancer at a separate club told me about needing to have her Corvette fixed.

I was telling the TRUTH and then he goes off on me because 'every stripper tells the sad life story'. I was being fucking honest. I haven't lived with my parents since I was 15, I've taken care of myself, gotten into University with bad ass grades, etc. I think that's a great story, that I haven't died or ended up living in a cardboard box on the street, right? He got up and left the fucking club because he was tired of 'all the dancers' bullshit to get pity money'.
Perhaps some of the ladies you talk to are being honest. Please don't be an ass and jump down their throats if you have no way of knowing the truth. That's not your call to make.

I don't think most of the guys were saying that they jumped down their throats. Just that they internally rolled their eyes.

Although, and I don't want to be supercilious here, maybe you should stick with cute life stories? I don't put a huge premium on "truth" when it comes to my life stories. I stick with "amusing".

I tend to do that as well. And this is exactly why. Guys are in there for a good time, right? Not to be your therapist or whatever. But yeah, this guy just kept pushing me for details and I have a made-up life story, but for some reason I felt the need to be honest. Oh well, lesson learned.

One time I asked a dancer how she was doing and she told me "Not very well." She went on to explain that her husband had died recently and she started dancing to support herself and her two young boys. Asked if the Social Security survior benefits were helpful. She gave me a blank stare and I knew she was feeding me a line.

Last year while I was in Vegas a dancer started telling me how she had send money back to Mexico so that her family could eat, and how they were so poor there would be no Christmas for them. Honestly, for someone who is trying to be on a vacation for a few days out of my life, I think it's reasonable to want to just let GO of the world's issues (they will be there tomorrow) and enjoy myself for a few days. Was mood killer for sure and a deal breaker.

It is for me as well. However, it is EXTREMELY effective technque. I have watched girl milk custies for YEARS using variations of such approach.

I also hate it when a dancer starts talking about her kids, or shows me her c-section scar from 3 months ago the moment she sits down (wink, wink Susan). She always has a redeeming shot if she can drop it and give a good dance.

It's what works. I understand why they do it, and I know it also appeals to my inner white knight too, so yea... people do what works, and this works. More power to them if it makes them more money. There was a time when I was a younger, naiver man, that it would have worked well on me too.

If it's actually someone I know and am friends with, sure, I'll lend a sympathetic ear, just as I would for anyone else... but just some random stripper? your sob story is not entertaining. Shut up and dance.

Whether these stories are true or not is really irrelevant. I go into the SC to be entertained by women who are supposed to give the illusion that they are confident, capable and are willing to work for their bread. Having a gal implicitly beg for money in the very environment where its her job to earn it just doesn't seem right.

But just the same, I don't mind a dancer sharing a good tale of humility as long as the ending doesn't involve making me feel sorry for her. Shit happens to all of us.

If I know the dancer, then it comes across less like a load of SS; despite Mr. Punk's assertions, strippers are people too.

However, if she just sits down and unloads on me with tales of woe, I just glaze over and start looking for the next dancer.

1. One in Kansas, whose sister -- also a dancer -- got in trouble with some folks dealing Meth. No thanks. Nothing I can do to help!

2. One in Longmont, about legal difficulties.

3. Another one about legal difficulties with a divorce that had turned from bad to worse. Later questions about purchasing a condo. Gave some advise on real estate related issues.

4. Really the most difficult was one gal who was always positive and cheerful, but who suddenly turned morose and complained of not having any friends she could turn to for help. She started drinking more. Unfortunately, this was a real cry for help, and you may have read about it in another thread. There was nothing I could do, no matter how much I wish I could have helped, in part because I really didn't know the depth of the trouble.

i generally avoid sob stories of any kind, and when customers ask me about my life i just say that i hang out with friends, build websites, play video games, etc. i don't ever really play the sympathy card....

except with one customer. he's a regular at my club with a lot of money. i used to always be all happy and bubbly with him, and he'd spend a bit of money, but i caught on quickly that he would always spend a lot more money on my friend who would sit with him and complain about how she gets picked on by the other girls and is miserable in her relationship and blah blah blah. so then instead of being happy i'd act all sad and talk about my anxiety and psychiatry bills and he started spending more. but it only took like 2 weeks before i got sick of pulling that shit, and now i don't really get dances with him anymore.

exactly. sometimes the truth isn't what should be told in a strip club. yeah, you might've had a shitty upbringing, but a lot of guys don't wanna hear about that. when guys ask me about school, i'll say that i used to be one of the ugly girls, but i'll also throw in how now i'm hot and all the guys from school would do anything to date me and make the story entertaining.

the sob story will work for some customers, but for some, it's a real turn-off.

i do tell the "sob stories", but ONLY to regulars who i know don't mind giving me the money i need. i don't tell just anyone i sit with. that's boring for them to hear.
