    Thumbs down Ugh head lice!

My daughter came home with them the other day, I treated her with rid but now I'm wondering if I have them, or if I'm just being paranoid lol. She sleeps in my bed alot and even tho I washed everything really good, one might have escaped...

Anywho, my question is this, I've heard that dyeing your hair will kill them and I am due to redye anyways but I want to make sure that's true before I do, or if dyeing will make them harder to get rid of (making rid less effective) and if it doesn't work, how long after using rid would I have to wait before I could redye my hair?
This is my first time as a mommy dealing with this so I'm a bit naive.

    Help?

Keep your hair REALLY dirty and full of product. Despite common misconceptions lice like CLEAN heads not dirty ones. If you already have it wash your bedding with hot water and use RID on your head. Lice has absolutely NOTHING to do with cleanliness.

Sorry, I didn't answer the question completely. Regarding dying your hair I'd say wait about a week after using the Rid and make sure the lice is gone before applying more chemicals.

    Yes, Lice loves CLEAN hair.

Also, once you get rid of them, there is a hair product for kids called "Fairytales" which prevents lice. Adults can use it too, obviously but since yur daughter is in school she has a higher chance of getting it.

Sorry to hear though. Thats gotta be horrible.

Lice don't actually pose any physical threat to humans, so first of all just relax!
But they are icky, so here are some solutions...

Rid may or may not work. A lot of lice are actually very resistant to Rid (think bacteria resistant to anti-biotics.) I always had to do this when I was little:
Cover your head with Mayonnaise (yes I said mayonnaise). And no Miracle Whip, no light fat free crap, the hard core stuff. Really smother it on there, then wrap your head (not your face!) in saran-wrap, go to bed. You can use a shower cap too if you are afraid of the saran-wrap moving. This will smother them and kill them. No chemicals to hurt your hair, you're just depriving those little fuckers of their oxygen.
In the morning just wash your hair a couple of times to get the greasiness out. It does make your hair super shiny though!

As for the dye, I'm not sure? It may kill them, but I don't see how it could make it harder to kill them.

Just make sure you wash your sheets and towels really well (bleach them if you can) and you should be fine.

    Best of luck!

Well, coloring your hair should kill them - it has ammonia in it.

Even if the lice is all dead and gone you will be itching a lot for a long time just because... even tho its not there. My girlfriends kid got lice and tho my friend didnt get it her head itched for months (the kid too). Its a psycological thing.

I have never heard of that... Rosemary Oil - I wonder if you could just mix some of that with some water put in in a spray bottle and use it as a preventative leave in?!

Regardless of how you treat them (olive oil, mayonaisse, RID, hair dye, etc) a very important step in the treatment process is using a proper comb to remove any of the remaining nits. (search online for proper technique) It's a pretty tedious process but quite imperative because one can potentially survive and hatch thus starting the cycle all over again. In addition to washing the bedding and clothing, thoroughly vacuum the house and immediately dispose of the bag (outside of the house)!

you can put all the stuffed animals in big black bags and put them in the sun for a couple days... will kill them.. or the dryer (not in a plastic bag obviously)

Whatever you do...make sure you treat it NOW, and not until you feel them on your head. I got them a couple years ago from some kids I was babysitting and had no idea - I had to use this lice shampoo like 4 times over a few weeks and my hair started to fall out. Now I have patchy hair. I wish I'd shaved my head.

If you can't get those special lice shampoos, completely saturate your head in olive oil. It smothers them.
