    Botched Chemichal Peel ?

I did a chemical peel (a mini one) at a PS clinic and it hurt like fuck, and now my face is covered with crusty skin and it looks more screwed up than ever!!

Is this part of a process or did the nurse screw it up? Should it be really crusty but not peeling?

It was done 2 days ago.

After an AHA peel, it is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness and dryness of the skin. However, these conditions will disappear as the skin adjusts to treatment.

After a phenol or TCA peel, your doctor may prescribe a mild pain medication to relieve any tingling or throbbing you may feel. If tape was used to cover your face, it will be removed after a day or two. A crust or scab will form on the treated area. To help your face heal properly, it is essential that you follow your doctor's specific post-operative instructions.

A TCA peel may also cause significant swelling, depending on the strength of the peel used.

If you've had a phenol peel, your face may become quite swollen. Your eyes may even be swollen shut temporarily. You will need someone to help care for you for a day or two. You may also be limited to a liquid diet and advised not to talk very much during the first few days of recovery.

I got a botched chemical peel about 2 years ago and I was PISSED. I'd get Botox any day over a chemical peel- I sneakily suspect peels even cause premature aging. Each time your cells reproduce they lose a little bit of the DNA chain and this is supposedly how cells "age." Botox actually relaxes the muscles beneath the skin and probably slows the rate of cellular renewal.

The only reason I would get another chemical peel is if there was a special event I needed to look my very best for-- like a photo shoot. Not for regular skin maintenance.

I'm pretty sure it's par for the course. Just don't pick at it; Let it fall off naturally. What kind of peel was it?

I see Chemical Peels, laser hair removal, tattoo removal, etc being offered by unlicensed people. Fortunately you went to a PS so I have a sneaking suspition (sp?) that youre fine. If you had gone to a spa and had it done I would be more worried...

It has been 5 days and my skin looks so bad I stayed home from school yesterday.

It is not peeling, my acne is cyctic now, so even makeup will not work.

I want to miss school again because I look such a mess, but today I have to go.

Should I call the clinic? Surely this cannot be right, it was supposed to be a peel but nothing peeled off.

If it was a TCA or Phenol peel it will scab and stay like that for about a week to 10 days. If it was an AHA peel this is all wrong. Do you know what TYPE of peel it was? Id call the clinic and see...

there's no way she had phenol. That requires sedation and a considerably long healing time and from what i understand is quite painful. My guess is glycolic or tca. in fact it sounds like a strong tca peel that maybe hasn't reached the peeling stage yet. Yes I would call the clinic, they should have given you better care instructions and more clearly explained what you should expect.

I'd do a tca but I would time it so I could hole up in the house for 10 days.

This thread makes me think of Samantha's lobster face on Sex in the City.

I get light chem peels and all it does is mke my skin flushed for a few days, then my skin is super smooth. I'm too scared to get something that I need to hide for 10 days.

I think you should call the PS office and tell them your concerns. And in the future, do your research!!!

In Toronto, I go to Dr. Gidon, shes a dermatologist with a med spa. So if you want to get a script for your acne, you can get that there as well. Google her, I can't remember her site and I'm posting from my phone right now.

^^ How long ago did you finish taking Accutane??

I think you have to wait like 6 months to a year before doing any procedures to your skin since it is extra sensitive. I'm sure that if you went to a PS though that isn's a problem.

I did 2 courses of Accutane and after the first one my skin was ok but got worse and worse within a year. I finished my second course about a year ago and my skin is awesome now. So maybe it will work better the second time around??

My Derm told me that the 'record' if you can call it that was a girl that was on it 7 different times before seeing moderate results. Good Luck!
