Seriously, how hard is it to check the date on an OP before replying to it??? I've been seeing alot of threads from like 2003. Yeah, there may be useful information in some of them, but many, many times people are replying to someone who is no longer a member!!

I know same here ! I'll read a post and see the person isn't here anymore. I just figure a member is bored and looking threads that interest them.

^^Other members including myself have done this too. I guess this kind of comes down to a pet peeve rather than forum taboo here.

I'm sure she didn't mean to want you to leave....especially over something so small.

I had a Iranian and Persian mixed bf once. He was truly an ass from his own personality but thats besides the point. Were the people members of SW? If so, I'm sorry those words were said to you.

I don't see why like 5 girls in every post need to post something like "wow this is the oldest thread in the whole wide world?" Is it really such a big deal? If it is then I wish that was the worst problem in my life, god forbid someone bring up an old thread. Really? Who cares?? Is it really a big deal, don't sweat the small stuff.

I always wondered why people get yelled at for not using the search function before resurrecting an old topic AND yelled at for bringing back old threads with a topic they want to discuss. What's the lesser of two evils here?
One of those things that make me go hmmmm.

My favorite novels would be considered ancient threads by those standards. IMO, as with most written works, great threads or lame threads are precisely what they are--regardless of their date(s)...

Ya know, it just doesn't make sense does it? Wondered the same thing.

So what is the rule, just to be sure. I use the search function first, to make sure a thread hasn't been started about the topic to which I am posting. Then if the thread has been started I read it, but do not reply to it? or I read and make a new thread stating I read it? or I read it, reply to it and upset the natives by resurrecting an old thread?

K, so yah, we may reply to someone who hasn't been on the site in ages. Oh well...if the topic is still a good one and people have something to add to it, why not? It's kind of silly IMO, unless someone can point out why it's such a bad thing. I am open to reasoning.

Its almost like you need to:

Start a new thread with "I searched this but wanted more specific info" in it.

Resurrect the old thread saying "I know this is old and needed some updated views"

    EE:

    Mr.Mackey of 'South Park' sez:
"Old threads are bad, mm-kay? They're bad 'cause they're not good, mm-kay?"

    P.S. I'm saving your avatar, mm-kay?

...or you could begin with "SW is not a milk carton and some topics are never truly 'outdated'..."

Start a new thread and risk getting told you should've done a search for old threads first.

Reply to an old thread and risk getting told you should've checked the date and just started a new thread already.

    There's a "Random Thread" & a "youtube.com" thread already.

Perhaps we need a "Catch-22" thread...?

It's more of a pet peeve of mine than anything. Like what's the point of giving someone who isn't even here anymore advice on their relationship problems? (that's just an example)

And I'm not going to apologize for hurting anyone's feelings. If I had a problem with any one member, I'll PM that member, not just air my grievences in the Lounge and hope they get the hint.

I don't know if that was a rhetorical question, but there are plenty of threads where someone has asked for advice or vented about a personal problem they are having where I've been able to relate, or even am going through the same thing. So the OP isn't always the only one who benefits from the replies.

    True dat, L1!

Reading SW posts/threads can occasionally be like piggyback online therapy.

i know i get mad about club threads being brought back up. or personal issues. what if something is personal and the person who started it really doesnt want it brought back up? maybe they dont want to think about it and bam now its in their head. it isnt helpful to bring that up.

as for club threads, old info isnt good info. things change all the time so bringing up old threads about a club doesnt do any good.

    im with you, glam.
