Default Secondhand smoke in the club

I don't smoke but it seems like everybody else does. You can smoke anywhere in the club, including the dressing room. I didn't realize how bad it was until this morning my boyfriend told me I smelled smoky and then I put on the sweater I wore at the club and it reeked and made me feel nauseous.

I guess I'm mostly bitching, but maybe I should start taking my allergy pills again? And how the hell do I get the stink out?

I totally know what you're talking about. I smoke but before the laws changed in May I would have to wash my hair like three times a night to get the smell out. And the clothes smelled like they had been covered in ashtray it was really terrible.
I would just say throw your clothes directly in the hamper when you get home or else the smell can contaminate, I could never wear clothes again after being in the club. And wash your hair because it really does absorb.

To deal with it temporarily (like on your way home from the club or until you can wash your clothes/hair) spray a bit of Febreze. That stuff's usually pretty good at masking the odour for a while.

If you don't have time to wash your hair, blow drying it weakens the stench. I will not lay my head on my pillow without at least blowing out my hair. You can spray febreeze into your hair too. Your clothes, you have to either wash or air out. Sometimes if I haven't worn an outfit but it stinks from the club I will throw it in the dryer with a dryer sheet instead of washing because washing wears out your clothes.

Ahhh Oregon. Just wait BonBon, in 2009 you won't have to worry about it in the clubs. That's when the non-smoking legislation comes into affect. I can't wait! Anyway, if you can't wash your hair, try running a dryer sheet over it. I'm not sure why, but it absorbs the odor.

I rotate my dancer clothes, so I have some fairly fresh ones every time. I Febreeze the ones I've brought into the club but haven't washed, even if I never wore them.

Health-wise, really the best we can do is try to stay away from the fucking chimney smoker people spewing it everywhere. But that's not always possible. Tonight I had a group of 5-6 people all smoking at my stage every time I went up. *Still choking*

I can't believe they let girls smoke in the dressing room there though too. Yuck. At my club (and most I've worked at) they don't allow that. Also, at my club, in one section of the bar people can't light up.

N-Acetyl Cysteine, lung detox pills perfect for helping get the crap out after a long smoky night in the club (makes me feel better...and I think it works.) Pretty inexpensive at health food store too.

No shit. The non-smokers will end up with just as much cancer as the smokers. It fucking sucks. By the time they outlaw smoking in bars in Indiana I'll be an old lady. But oh how I would love one smoke-free year in the strip club.

    N-Acetyl Cysteine

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a metabolite of the sulfur-containing amino acid, Cysteine. Cysteine is found in high protein foods, N-Acetyl Cysteine is not. N-Acetyl Cysteine is produced within the human body. Cysteine plays a role in the sulfation cycle, acting as a sulfur donor in phase II detoxification and as a methyl donor in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. Cysteine also helps synthesize glutathione, one of the body's most important natural antioxidants and detoxifiers. N-Acetyl-Cysteine is the acetylated form of L-Cysteine.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine increases Glutathione Levels

N-Acetyl Cysteine is rapidly metabolized to intracellular glutathione. Glutathione acts as a powerful antioxidant in the body. Glutathione also detoxifies chemicals into less harmful compounds. N-Acetyl Cysteine also protects the body from acetaminophen toxicity and is used in hospitals for patients with acetaminophen poisoning. It has also been shown to be effective at treating liver failure from other causes as well.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine Chelates Heavy Metals

Heavy metals like lead, mercury, and arsenic are detoxified and removed from the body by N-Acetyl Cysteine . It also increases the excretion of zinc and other essential minerals when taken over an extended period. It is therefore necessary to supplement zinc, copper and other trace minerals when taking N-Acetyl Cysteine.
N-Acetyl Cysteine and the Immune System

Glutathione is known to aid in the transport of nutrients to lymphocytes and phagocytes, two major classes of immune cells, and to protect cell membranes. While purified glutathione is available as a dietary supplement, absorption is low, and N-Acetyl Cysteine is thought to be a better method of boosting cellular glutathione levels. N-Acetyl Cysteine is being investigated as a treatment for AIDS.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine Breaks up Mucus

N-Acetyl Cysteine cleaves disulfide bonds by converting them to two sulfhydryl groups. This action results in the breakup of mucoproteins in lung mucus, reducing their chain lengths and thinning the mucus, improving conditions such as bronchitis and flu. Double-blind research has found that N-Acetyl Cysteine supplements improved symptoms and prevented recurrences in people with chronic bronchitis. N-Acetyl Cysteine at a dosage of 1,200 mg per day helps to prevent Influenza infection and reduce the symptoms and duration of existing Influenza infection.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine and Cancer

N-Acetyl CysteineN-Acetyl Cysteine has been shown to reduce the proliferation of certain cells lining the colon and may reduce the risk of colon cancer in people with recurrent polyps in the colon. Its action as an antioxidant and a glutathione precursor may also contribute to a protective effect against cancer.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine Cautions

When taking N-acetyl cysteine it is recommended that two to three times as much Vitamin C be taken at the same time. Failure to do so may result in more harm than good from taking this product because of the prolonged presence of the oxidized form of L-Cysteine. Vitamin C also helps keep the glutathione that is produced from the Cysteine in its reduced form so that it can continue acting as an antioxidant.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine Dosage

Typical dosage recommendations are in the range of 250-1500mg of NAC daily for the majority of therapeutic benefits.
    N-Acetyl Cysteine Safety

NAC is considered safe for consumption in its therapeutic dosage ranges. Individual reactions may vary and anyone experiencing adverse symptoms while taking N-Acetyl Cysteine should discontinue it.

Seriously though, I'm in Portland and I get so tired of the smoke. Girls sit in the dressing room and smoke all night long too, and the waitresses sit in the bathroom and smoke, there is absolutely no avoiding it. I've been so irritated before that if a guy is puffing away at my rack, I won't even go close to him.

I have some vitamins that are for air born pollutants, I'll check to see if they have the stuff fancygirl posted. I never can remember to take them, but I should.
