Default Need help w/ out of control appetite!

Lately my appetite is completely ridiculous. I think I've gained like 10 lbs. in the last month. I recently started taking Lexapro and Ativan for anxiety. I also take Ortho Tri-Cyclen bcp daily. As for vitamins I take the Wal-Mart Hair Pills, Hair/Skin/Nails vitamins, and a women's daily multi-vit.

I have no idea what is going on, and I am getting really depressed. I work out, try to eat healthy, but I am constantly HUNGRY!

I have tried a few things, like drinking lots of H2O with lemon (this used to work), eating smaller, more frequent meals, but no luck.

Does anyone have anything that they do that works? My weight is average, I think I could stand to lose 20 lbs or so. I currently weigh 140, which is up 10 lbs. from just over a month ago. I am 5'5, so I guess that is good for my height, but I like to stay at 120-130 tops.

I am willing to try anything at this point - natural or otherwise. Are there any herbal supplements that work to help suppress appetite? Please help! I feel like my jeans are getting tighter by the minute! lol!

I've read that Lipo-6 is good, in fact I'm planning to try it myself. There's also the Shangri-La method, which I already use and which works quite well. You take a couple of tablespoons of extra light olive oil right in the middle of a two hour window during which you consume nothing with a flavour (ie no food, drink, toothpaste, gum- nothing but water for an hour before and after you take the oil). This lowers the weight your body tends to defend and makes you less hungry. I've also heard about Hoodia, but I've heard you need to be cautious with it and that most Hoodia supplements don't contain much of the actual herb.

Caffene (which is mainly what current diet pills are made out of today) helps curb the appetite. Also, willpower. If your meds are making you hungry but you don't give in, your body should stop looking for that kind of gratification after awhile.

But, what kind of hunger are we talking here? Like, "Omg, my stomach hurts and I feel like I'm going to puke" kind of hungry or "I really want to eat. Food is good and I frickin' want some now!" Kind of hungry.

I would try increasing the amount of bulk fiber in your diet.

Go out and get a box of Fiber One (the cereal) and when you find yourself hungry in between meals, nosh on that! It's only 60 cals per serving, ridiculously healthy, and has over 60% of your daily fiber.... drink it with water and it will expand in your stomach a bit and hopefully make you feel a bit more full. I cannot speak highly enough of this stuff... if it's too bland, put in a packet of equal & some raisins for extra fiber.

    Thanks for the responses!
I am definitely curious about the olive oil...Is it gross to just drink the tablespoon of oil? I would worry that it would taste weird or something.

Bella - it is *definitely* "I really want to eat. Food is good and I frickin' want some now!" kind of hungry! LOL!!! Like really out of control!

I think it definitely has something to do with the meds, because I have never had this problem before. I am trying really hard to resist! And the Fiber cereal idea is a great one - I love cereal! I will definitely try that.

The Hoodia I have heard of also, never tried it though. I'll have to look into that as well.

    Thanks again, ladies!

What's your diet like? If I'm eating lots of sugar and too many carbs, I want to eat all the time. Protein and fat keep you full longer.

I find if I go from eating wayy too much to eating small portions, it just going to suck until my stomach adjusts to eating less. But once it happens, it's so much easier.

Re: the oil. You get used to it. If you find you just can't take it, the alternative is sugar water (4 tbsp to a litre of water), but this must be mixed up and sipped over a half hour period to avoid blood sugar spikes, and that's a bit fiddly for my liking.

If you are taking anxiety drugs...ask your Dr about Klonopin or adderall....I barely have an appetite on either of those. I have to force myself to eat.
Maybe its the drugs themselves that are increasing your appetite...some decrease, some increase.
