i used to dream militant dreams / of taking over america / to show these white folks how it should be done
i used to dream radical dreams / of blowing everyone away / with my perceptive powers of correct analysis
i even used to think / id be the one to stop the riot and negotiate the peace / then i awoke and dug
that if i dreamed natural dreams / of being a natural woman
doing what a woman does / when shes natural
i would have a revolution

Sometimes I'm happy I grew up Jewish. Gelatin products (save a very few kosher gelatin products) were a no-go in my house. Until you read labels, you won't know how many products it is in!
Gum, candies, yoghurt, marshmallows, some cookies... LOTS of stuff.![]()

wow... hey at least we are resourceful...
Yeah, I read that years ago, but I still eat gummy worms on occasion & jello shots on holidays.

Yep, it's mostly horse hooves. I've known that since I was 5.
Here's what I know.
Boobs = happy.
Happy = no fight.
No fight = peace.
Therefore:
Boobs = Peace!

i guess you'd better not eat ANYTHING, then. they sometimes use animal POOP to FERTILISE PLANTS. OMG GROSS.
also, a certain amount of "insect fragments" are allowed in perfectly common foods.
not to mention shed skin flakes and such from other people too small to be detectable.
yeah, you'd best just quit eating food, like, ever.
Yeah, cuz fertilizer is TOTALLY the same thing as eating horse hooves.
I believe you Dottie and you have my support
do vegetarians eat gelatin? i have a few vegetarian friends, and i swear i've seen them eating gummibears and marshmallows.

I don't think using horse hooves is common. It's typically made from bones, cartilage and maybe skin. Like when you make homemade chicken soup, you know how the soup gels up when it's refrigerated?
It's not just food too, they use it for drug/supplement capsules as well.
A lot vegetarians don't know about this and others yet exercise a certain amount of willful ignorance with regard to stuff like this.
But to answer your question: no. A true vegetarian would avoid eating gelatin.
so, miabella, by your logic, since we cannot avoid a certain amount of, say, animal manure fertilizer, that we should just dive into a pile of shit with a spoon?
what would a true vegetarian do if they were prescribed a medication that came in gelatin capsules?

^open and sprinkle? or maybe request tablets instead?
^^^If tablets aren't available for a truly necessary medication, I think most vegetarians will go ahead and take the gelcaps. Even PETA advocates this. Likewise, all medications approved by the FDA in the US MUST, by law, undergo animal experimentation trials. That is something that cannot be avoided at this time, so there is really no point in depriving oneself of necessary medicine just because it has been tested on animals or is ONLY available in gelatin tab form.
Vegetarianism should be about making kind choices whenever possible, not about personal purity, IMO.

hoof or bone, whatever. me and my grandma loooove jello. <3
the fact that i knew that it's made out of that doesn't make it taste any shitter. green jello = luvv.

using gelcaps as a vegan is not 'personally pure' but 'inconsistent and hypocritical'.
i know a few people who don't use gelcaps/insulin/etc and risk death for their dietary principles, and that is fine. but it's worth noting they are very few and there's way more people trying to have their moral-superiority cake and eat it too, particularly regarding this issue.
no, but if you eat organic, you might wanna wash your fruit and veg a little more thoroughly...
point is, all kinds of weird stuff is used to grow and make food (and nonfood stuffs for that matter), and being selective about what weird stuff yicks you out has always seemed weird to me.
but then, i'll eat darn near anything as long as it's down to a slow crawl before it reaches my plate.

There are plenty of vegan gelatins like Hain Superfruits (health food store) or gulaman--which is Asia's jello. You can find it it in the Asian groceries. They taste just as good as jello.
