    Default Consolidating Student Loans

    I have loans currently.

    $14000+/-

I want to consolidate. Anyone here done that and which company did you use? Im not sure who to go with or how to go about it.

I went to the consolidation page on the federal loan website but its so freakin confusing. They want all the info from each loan and I have like 10 different loans and cant find all the info.

All I know is $9500 from one company and $4500 from another... but THOSE are actually broken down into smaller loans. $1500 here, $1000 there and they want the info from each loan.

Cant the freakin company get this info? Is there a company that will do this for me and find and fill in all the info??

^^^ if you want the best terms and lowest rates possible, you MUST go through Sallie Mae for consolidation. Since this is a de-facto government sponsored entity, you have to do all of the application legwork yourself.

if you want to work with a 'private' company for consolidation, there are plenty of them out there - for example or . A private lender would most likely do all of the legwork for you. However, to consolidate through a private lender you will probably need to have a good credit history and maybe a cosigner. Also the interest rate that you will be charged by a private lender will probably be proportional to your creditworthiness.

Private lenders can also front for Sallie Mae consolidation loans, but they generally set a $20,000 minimum in order to make the cost of the legwork worth their while.
