    Default Dog litter

Has anyone here ever tried to train their dogs in puppy litter? I know they sell it, and when I origionally tried to train Dexter as a puppy he ate it so I figured it was unhealthy. Now I am reading these threads about Andygirl's husband and tampadancer's incident and I'm thinking I don't really want to take my dogs to go potty at 3am every day. So has anyone tried puppy litter? Puppy pads work for me but I have carpets and it will just seep through the carpets and I don't feel like scrubbing my carpets every day.

I tried puppy litter and it didn't work for me, but you never know your dog can be different. I returned mine after it didn't work, it never hurts to try

The puppy pads I get a both Target and Petco are a plastic-like back and extremely asorbant so they don't leak through the back. If you are still worried about it though maybe you could try a puppy pad on top of some kind of plastic mat or something.

True! And they are Great! Dogs/pups take to them pretty quick when being firm with them.

I have used them when i no longer needed to crate the pup.

I must have bought cheap ones then??? Because I had them on hardwood floors when I tried them, when I lifted them up I had to swiffer the floor because it was wet.

What kind of puppy do you have? Some dogs can be litter-trained, but most can't. A lot of them would rather just eat the litter - man, dogs are so gross.

I wouldn't start letting my dog crap inside just because of the dangers of the outside world. Most of the time we let the dog go out back into the yard to do her business while we stand at the door. No need to go anywhere at night. And most crate-trained dogs will not need to go potty during the hours they are in the crate. We put Cinny in the crate around 11:00 p.m. and she goes out around 7 a.m. A dog can hold it just like a person can hold it.

And what Yek said, the dog would probably just turn around and eat it. My dog already tries to eat the cat shit, I can't imagine if we left her to her own devices with her own. Barf.

you could try training her on cedar chips or hamster wood fluff. wood isn't great for dogs, but I don't think you'll get the issues you'll get with fancy cat litter, gravel, or the dried clay stuff.

Thats cool. The thing that sucks is unlike the pads that you can throw away this you have to clean... and I seriously think i would puke cleaning dog shit off a mat daily.

I'm going to start doing a new night system because they are really good with going potty outside, I wouldn't want to mess up their system I guess. And BTW they are a chihuahua mix with ? and a pomeranian

Ive had kids and its still GROSS... Come to think of it tho when I had my puppy she would shit in the crate. She was such an idiot. I took that outside and sprayed it down so I guess I could handle it but Im picturing washing it in the sink with like soap and water.... poop going down the garbage disposal.. OK, the thoughts making me gag... yuck.
