    Default Frozen dinners

I just thought i'd pass this on. in my quest to eat better I have found Kashi whole grain frozen dinners. The important thing for me is I was eating so much fast food with no nutritional value. But you really have to look. They make about 7 or 8 dinners. Usually by the lean cuisine or healthy choice food.
I have even found it to be good for breakfast.
    Black Bean Mango- vegetarain
    Pesto Pasta Primavera- Vegetarian
    Southwest Style Chicken
    Chicken Pasta Pomodoro
    Lime Cilantro Shrimp
    Sweet and Sour Chicken
    Lemon Rosemary Chicken
    Chicken Florentine
    Lemongrass Coconut Chicken

Today I had the Chicken Florentine:
    Sodium - 550mg
    Protien 22g
    Fiber- 5g
    Sugars- 1g
    Total Fat- 9g

I'm not sure if we have Kashi around here, but I should check. Lately I've been wanting to start eating healthier.

I liked the Amy's brand too! Although I usually buy the Lean Cuisines or Weight Watcher's Smart One's b/c Amy's is hard to find around here.

Thanks! Can you buy these at the local grocery store? A lot of those dishes sound really yummy! I normally eat Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, or South Beach Diet... I'll be sure to check these out.

Around here walmart has them for $3 even. In the grocery store I have seen them about 3.50 or as high as 4.45.

this thread reminds me of that zz top song...

Tv dinners there's nothin' else to eat
Tv dinners they really can't be beat
I like 'em frozen but you understand
I throw 'em in and wave 'em and I'm a brand new man oh yeah!

Tv dinners they're goin' to my head
Tv dinners my skin is turnin' red
Twenty year old turkey in a thirty year old tin
I can't wait until tomorrow.... And thaw one out again oh yeah!

Tv dinners I'm feelin' kinda rough
Tv dinners this one's kinda tough
I like the enchiladas and the teriaki too
I even like the chicken if.... The sauce is not too blue.

And they're mine, all mine, oh yeah
    And they sure are fine.
    Gotta have 'em
    Gimme somethin' now.

Susan, I love Amy's frozen dinners, too!

I'm also a great fan of sandwiches and salads. I bought pesto, part skim mozzarella, tomatoes, baby spinach, vinaigrette, a loaf of bread, almond butter, and strawberry jam, and this provides MANY delicious and fresh dinners.
"She held me close and whispered in my ear how wonderful I was. Since I'm not wonderful. I was pretty sure this was a trap. So I figured I'd better grope her as much as I could before they sprung the trap. You've got to take what you can get in this life. I read that in a magazine. So I started smearing kisses on her and pawing the front of her dress, trying to get my money's worth before somebody bashed my head in." John Swartzwelder

I'm a soup and salad girl in the Fall/Winter. Black bean (Walnut Acres) is my fave. It's a can but, it's convenient and they were on sale today at Wholeoods (2/$4).

    Er, yeah....

Supermarket reheatable/microwaveable fast food is notoriously unhealthy. Sometimes the main reason it's covered in sauce is so that you can't see what you're eating.

They use cheap ingredients like mechanically recovered meat - often that's bits recovered from the carcases by blasting them with steam lines. Plus, a lot of the chicken that goes into fast food should really be called chicken skin (cos that's what it is).

(If you don't believe me, check out: Not on the Label: What Really Goes into the Food on Your Plate: Felicity Lawrence).

If you want a quick and healthy meal get a Wok and stir fry. I can do chicken with vegetables (leeks, spring onions, peppers and mushrooms) in sweet and sour sauce in 10 - 15 minutes start to finish. Rice cooks in about the same time.

Only thing I buy pre-made is the sweet and sour sauce. For the rest I slice up chicken breasts and dice fresh vegetables.

It's a damned sight healthier than fast food and is really quick to prepare.

The stir fry idea seems like a good idea. You could make a huge batch of it once a week and bring it to work etc.

I also like those tofu noodles (i forget what they are called but they are actually yams/soy or something) and they are only like 20 cals per serving.

At 15 minutes a time, why not cook every day (or two days).

There's a hell of a lot you can cook quickly. An omlette is literally 5 minutes. I do them with cheese (grate and add a couple of minutes before the omlette finishes) or shredded spring onions. Have wth a side salad.

Salads are super quick to prepare as well. Cheese salad: grated cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, celery, cucumber. Vinagrette dressing is just olive oil and vinegar whisked up together. 5 minutes tops.

There's no reason why you can't eat very healthily (and cheaply) with very short preparation time.

I've always trusted the Amy's line, as everything I've had of theirs (hers?) was good. Now I'll have to check out Kashi! I've seen them and been curious, but never had an endorsement 'til now. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but it seems like they have a lot of calories compared to Lean Cuisine and Weight Watchers.

Ditto! Also, I was married for 4 years and cooked for that man almost every single day. He never had to worry about what he was going to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don't have to worry about that anymore. Although, this holiday season I've been in a cooking mood.

I'm not eating them for low calorie intake. if you're on a diet check into it b/c I'm not sure about that.
I definitely need to come up with some more things to make at home, but in the meantime this gets me by.
Omletts are great, but isn't the cholesterol high? I still eat them- mostly with egg beaters.

I didn't know they were higher in calories, I guess it's okay I forget to look for them while in the packed grocery store today. I eat frozen meals because I don't normally like to cook. Plus I do try to watch calories & I feel like if I make something I have no idea what's in it. Like I have to go look up each individual thing to find out what it adds up to. I guess I may never been the picture of health.

i tried that one too. it was soooooo gross.

i've had a couple too many bad experiences with frozen food. there's a couple meals i feel safe with, but at this point, if i want fast, i'll nuke some veggies and open a can of sardines. i used to hate them. now i just try not to look.
