Who became very ill and almost died.

All over the news there is a cold type mutant going around. Many have died from it already. It's VICIOUS. Be careful with what seems to be the common cold that hurts the chest or gets much worse quick.

    Sindi glad you feel better

Not surprising. It's around the 100th anniversary of the Spanish Influenza epidemic....(Runs off to Google....)

I didn't post this to scare people, but to make them realize they must be aware...Epidemics are still common in developing and Third World countries.

Ah shit, I'm doing my clinical rotations in a county hospital. Perhaps I should wear a hazmat suit wherever I go.

No shit, that is scary stuff. We do need to be aware. I was telling my daughter tonite if anyone is coughing or hacking next to her at work, MOVE. She said they would not allow her to. I told her to have her boss call me about that shit!

I told my boyfriend the same thing pretty much. As a dealer in a casino, he handles filthy dirty casino chips and money all night long. People cough into their hands and then touch the casino chip...filthy!
I told him to wash his hands on every break and keep them away from his face. ( he has a habit of rubbing his eyes)
This superbug, and then the MRSA crap....gotta be careful!

These outbreaks are scary. This is what happens when people rush to the hospital when they simply have a sneeze and pressure doctors for antibiotics when they are not needed. Now I KNOW (before anyone says it) that simple syymptoms like a sneeze or cough can be indicative of something like this mutation of the common cold. But many people think viruses can be cured with antibiotics, when in reality it's only bacterial infections that can be helped by antibiotics. Viruses must run their course on their own and treat the symptoms. Otherwise you are needlessly using antibiotics. This is why we are getting superbugs that become antibiotic resistant.

Your body must build immunities to combat illnesses. Overloading on antibacterial products is a downward spiral. It's a fine line we have to tread, not enough washing and antibacterial product use leads to sickness, too much use creates resistant bacteria.

^^^ Very true! Last night i caught some more on the news and they are talking about doctors giving antibiotics for viral infection, which they don't help! One doctor said that he gave patients Antibiotics for many cold because of secondary infection....Well how the hell does he know they are going to get a secondary infection. I would think you wait and see! They are indeed abusing our antibiotics. Also we do need to be exposed to the minor pain in the ass typical colds. These do build antibiodies that fight infection. Seems our own bodies work better tha antibiotics these days.

A fine mess it seems rolls our way due to medical society.

This is exactly why I don't take antibiotics the full time and only when I needed them. Yet, if there is something deathly wrong with me then I will take the antibiotics but for a head cold I try to just wait it our and use something natural.

I'm so glad you wrote this I was going to mention it as well. Using antibacterial products also kills the "good" bacteria on our bodies.

The best way to wash your hands is to use warm water and lather up with regular soap and don't forget in between your fingers! Just pretend you're a surgeon for a minute or two. I love washing my hands, especially when I see dirty water run off it's soooo satisfying. I've even been complimented on my hand washing technique by an RN. Yes, I'm a freak.

Oh TM you MUST take antibiotics for the full prescribed course or at LEAST get the dr or pharmacists approval that its ok to stop early. Not taking the full course is what contributes to the super bugs!

I hear ya. I work pt for a hospital, gosh have most my life, and now everytime a person coughs we move, hold our breath. I have been exposed to alot, but damn those colds, it's hard to avoid them, especially if the other person is not showing symptoms. I use paper towels to open bathroom doors, flush with my foot, etc. Hate it!

When i get sick i get it big time as well.

Example, when I got sick in April with strep I had to get amoxicillin. By the time I got to the doctors I had it for a week already. I took 3 days of it then stopped and it hasn't returned. You have me curious as to how it gets to be a super bug.

I was out shopping at tj maxx a couple of weeks ago and this woman had the most horrific sounding cough! It sounded like tuberculosis or some shit I am not kidding. I don't know how the hell she was moving let alone shopping. It sounded like she was going to keel over and DIE. I was like, seriously worried for my own health and bailed out of there. Like, why would you be in public if you sound THAT BAD?

because taking it for only a couple of days kills only the weaker bacteria. The stronger ones become resistant to the medication. I will confess that I dropped micro, but it works something like that.

Ew to think of all the things she touched inside the store. Coughing in her hand then touching the items. Cough touch cough touch cough cough phlegm touch.

How does the bacteria get stronger when it is no longer having a negative effect (ie sore throat, cough etc) on the person?
