    Default gynecologist male or female?

I have been looking for a new obgyn and it seems like they are all men!
I usually have had my paps done by a female, and only once has it been a male. I feel way more comfortable when a female does it.

Is this common or am i overreacting?
I guess I dont give men much credit, but I just cant imagine them going into a field like this with 100% good intentions. I also cant help but think they are thinking something perverted while doing it, especially when they stick their finger in.
Recently one of my friends doctors was charged with a couple sexual harassment cases (guilty), and somehow he is still working!! The only difference is that he has to have a female nurse in the room.
    Opinions?

My personal opinion is why go to a male? Pervertedness aside, they don't have the same equipment we have, and can't understand what we're talking about when we say severe cramps, or anything like that. They can know what to look for or palpate for, but they don't know what stuff feels like. I'd only trust a female because she can really relate. But that's just my opinion. I know girls who only go to men.

Female- if for no other reason because you will probably feel more comfortable discussing personal issues with her. Maybe if you can't find a female doctor you could schedule your appointments with a nurse's assistant. They usually have more openings in their schedule anyway.

I would love to be able to go to a woman, but the women around here all seemed to be booked for months ahead. The bigger practices that have women all seem to save a large portion of their appointments for teenage girls and women who have religious or other reasons for not seeing a man.

I will avoid male OBGYNs unless they're specialists. I still haven't gotten over 2 male docs dismissing and belittling my illness.

(Weirdly enough, one of the biggest jerks I ever worked for was a retired OBGYN- he ran a hotel as a retirement income vehicle & I cleaned the rooms for him...He was gay too. NO joke. Odd world.)

To me it doesn't matter, but then again I have way little experience with OBGYNs in general.

True. I had to wait like 6 months for my first appt with one. I wasn't in any rush though. I have health insurance and I figured I better use it at some point!

I have gone to both and they seemed to both be just fine.

I'd rather have a woman but would take a man if that was what was available. Its not that I'd feel less comfortable. I'm pretty damn comfortable around men. Its not that I don't think they'd be professional either. Its just that as much as a man may try, he'll never know what its like to have our complicated lady-parts.

I also wouldn't fault a man for wanting to have another man treat his man-parts issues. As proffesional and knowledgeable as a woman doctor may be, she'll never know what its like to have a freakin' penis.

Ever since I was 16 I've had women gynos. It would probably be too weird for me now to switch to a male gyno.

I prefer a female doctor. I don't think I have ever seen a male gyno, come to think of it. When it comes to general practice I'm cool with either gender but I really like talking to another woman about the downbelows.

Never bothered me, I've had more males than females as doctors. I have been requesting female docs when I can though.

I don't care - as long as they are nice and know what they're doing.

Female. I have heard too many stories of male doctors being lecherous. And I personally just feel better having someone who has my parts look into it, like so many have mentioned. Too many horror stories of male doctors to even think about trying one

Hahaha this reminds me when my doctor was writing down names for a gyno for me to see. He was writing a female name and said, "Do you prefer male or female?" I replied with, "Competent." He then quickly crossed out that name and wrote another. HAHAHHA.

Oh no! He wasn't being sexist! He had originally assumed I'd want a female doctor, like most women do, but when I said I wanted a competent doctor he actually gave me the name of a much better male doctor with better qualifications.

We commented a bit on how women 'usually prefer women because they think they're better but they're not always'.

Just saying, a female gyno isn't always the best gyno.

Yes, I could have guessed that's what happened. Still, I detest the old boy's nature of the medical field.

Oh well. I just figure--I don't let guys who are paying ME feel me up. Fuck paying one of THEM to do it.

Honestly I prefer male docs. It seems like men since they DON'T have our equipment are more willing to listen to you and discuss things whereas women assume they know what is wrong (and every possibility) and don't listen to what you have to say.

As for WHY they get into it, who knows? Maybe their mom died in childbirth or their sister got ovarian cancer and they're looking to prevent it as much as possible. Heck, heart doctors do it for that reason why not obgyn's? Could be for a variety of reasons. I'm sure nobody starts med school saying I want to be a proctologist.

Iprefer a female gyn. I have had male, for surgery. He was good, but still, I'm more comfortable with a woman.

But as for why male dr.s get into gynecology...I highly doubt it's for perverse reasons. I mean, when you see a doctor, it's for a problem. 95% of the vag's he looks at are diseased in some way. NOT a turn on to have your head is smelly, rotten vag all day. he has to deal with YI's, herpes, and the dreaded BV. You can smell BV from down the fucking halway, but he's got his head burried in it. Not to mention the unpleasing looks of some vagina's. Gaping holes, meatflaps, full bushes that he's gotta part in order to just get there.

Nah. I doubt they are perverse.
( the general population anyway. Alwyas got a few wierdos)

Speakign of which, my first gyn out here was a lesbian doctor. Butch type, very rude, rough and insensitive. Never saw her again.
She goes, You got a wart. How many sexual partners you have?
I said, 1 for the past 5 years.
She said yeah, well he probably has a wart to then.
    I said, no, that isn't a wart, it's a mole.
She said, nope, it's a wart, go buy this cream it's onyl $300 bucks, it'll fall right off.
Uhh..I don't have insurance, I'm not payig $300 for cream for a nonexistant wart. It's a fucking mole. It's been there sicne first grade.( and how I discovered that is funny to)
Anyway.....That wasn't all of it, she was just rough and unkind.
