Default First off thank you to everyone on this board...and a few questions

First off I just want to thank every single person on this forum. I have been reading a lot of post this last week and I finally decided to sign up.

I thought I'd tell you all a little about myself and also ask a few questions, feel free to skim through this post if I bore you .

First of all I do go to school full time and I also have a very good internship. However, I have been considering becoming a dancer for over five months now. The biggest concern for me is to run into someone I know, especially someone who I work with. I was talking to my girlfriend about this and she asked me if I considered becoming an escort, that way I can know who the person is before meeting them.

Now, I have never been an escort or dancer but I have had a few sugar daddies in the past, one of them was actually only 22 .

Just curious if any of you ladies can offer me some advise.

Also, feel free to pm if you wish.

    Thanks .

I might not be of much help, but I also have the same concern (another reason why I'm a bit hesitant about dancing, even though I want to do it lol). I wonder if there are any former dancers on here who have transitioned well into their careers to give us advice? I know there are some students on SW, but what about people who are already doing what they went to school for?

I've heard stories of girls in my area running into a former customer at a job interview, and that customer would tell the whole business that they were a former stripper. That sucks when you've spent money on your education, and have trouble finding a job in that field or exceling afterwards. Does this happen often?

I'm curious about escorting as well, if anyone else wants to add. Do you have to put your pictures up online or you don't have to? Sorry, I have no clue about how it works.

I don't see what the difference would be... you could run into a former customer that you escorted for at work too.... and that would probably be worse....

Well, at least if you were escorting youre both in a bad situation. Its easier for a guy to go - "I got dances from you at the titty bar" than "I got head from her at a motel" Escorting is more discreet and less of a chance of being called out.

Just make sure if you want to escort that you go thru a reputable company with a bouncer/driver. No you dont have to show your face. Lots of girls have pics with their face blurred to keep their identity secret.

BUT choose which you want to do. Dont go to the club and work as a dancer to solicit escorting work please. We would all appreciate it.

I dont know much about escorting. Ive been dancing years and never ran into anyone I knew.... so I guess Im not much help.

Well... you really are comparing apples to oranges, in my opinion anyway.

Apparently, prostitution is legal in Canada *just learned that right now actually* but there is probably a considerable stigma associated with it. Regardless of legality.

I mean, dancing naked is one thing. Having sex with a guy is another. Yes, both are for money, and yes some people might lump all sexwork into one big ball of salaciousness. However, there is a difference and different degrees of risk.

I find that I prefer to be in a controlled environment. Just in case anything gets out of hand it can be squashed ASAP. I know that nothing is 100% safe but I imagine that a few burly guys can tackle some trouble makers if need be and protect the scantily clad ladies. When escorting, you are alone.. in a room... with a guy. No cameras, no bouncers.... I just don't like the thought of it. Yah know?

The fact that you strongly worry about people finding out is reason enough not to do either job. Even secrets like escorting can have a way of slipping out (perhaps from vindictive ex friends, guys that you fuck who later are revealed to be part of your social circle, drunk confessions, etc.)

Let me publicly state that I have no issue with prostitution. I think if a woman is comfortable having sex for money... then more power to her! I've done a great deal of research on the matter and have written a number of papers in the defense of prostitution and in favor of legalizing it.

Cinammon, I don't know where you live but if it's in the US, I hope you are aware that escorting is illegal in 99% of the country. A prostitution charge on your record is waaaay worse than evidence of working a legal strip club. Since I don't know where you're coming from I'll leave that factoid out there... no offense, of course.

While it is possible that info could get out about me being a dancer I don't really worry about how it will affect my career. It's 2007... jeeze... if people aren't hip to hot chicks paying for college by shaking their tush on a pole, it's their problem.

I don't think a career will be *Devastated* by info like that. It may make for some interesting talk around the water cooler, but who cares! It's not like you were kidnapping small children and eating them for dinner. There are way worse things in the world.

I love when Nude photos of Madonna were released to the press.

And she basically said "So what?" That is my attitude when people find out that I'm a dancer.

I have had ex classmates (from high school), current classmates from college, people from my neighborhood, and ex professors, show up in my club.

I know that I have nothing to be ashamed of.

However, if you plan on running for some political office, or have plans on being a ministers wife, it may not be the smartest move to go into stripping.

I think what it comes down to is :

If you are VERY afraid of people finding out you dance (or escort) you shouldn't do it. You don't want to be living with that kind of stress.

Yha, escorting and dancing are two completely different things. Id rather get "caught" stripping at a club than hooking in a hotel room or where ever.

I don't really care if people find out that i dance. I don't proclaim it to the world, but if someone asked I wouldn't lie and say "no". A teacher at my friends old high school (nice neighborhood if that matters) was a former stripper, so I don't see it as too big of a deal.

As the others stated though, If you're REALLY scared about getting found out then don't do it. Going to work would only stress you out, and if you did get found out I'm sure you wouldn't feel as if it was worth it. Why put yourself in that situation?

Yep... My inner circle knows (family, good longtime friends, my boyfriend), everyone else really doesn't. It's one of those things where it's not really their business to begin with. However, if people were to find out, my universe wouldn't come crashing down.

I think thats a very important distinction.

Mass quantities of people knowing that I dance wouldn't be desirable. However, it wouldn't be devastating.

    Hi Sophia,

You're right, but this is what my close friends have been telling me once I told them about my contemplation regarding stripping. They're the ones who brought up "What if someone sees you? Your reputation will be damaged! Nobody is going to marry you, yadda yadda." Before I make a major decision, I just wanted to look at things from all perspectives.

Honestly though, this forum has helped my confidence grow and I think you guys are more in a position than any friend of mine to educate me about stripping. Chances are I will muster up the mentality to not give a damn about what anyone else thinks about my choices, because this is something I've wanted to do for a long time.....It should be about me in the end, anyway. Most of you seem to be doing well in this profession anyhow, and it's a shame there's so much negative stigma attached to strippers.

The only people who I strongly DON'T want to find out are my parents, because they will be hurt. They unfortunately never will view stripping as I do, so I think it's best to protect them from knowing (just in case one of their friends drops by at a SC).

I live in Illinois and am going to be a clinical psychologist. Someone told me, "What if a client was a former customer? They're going to see you in a different light." Well, I don't plan on practicing here in Illinois once I'm done with my education lol.

One of my classmates is a Miller Girl, and she's a respected and successful student. Most people don't know that she dresses up in skimpy outfits and sells beer though, but she's getting by the program just fine!

Crap, the job market is SO crappy right now..Stripping seems like such a perfect fit for a struggling 20-something student trying to move out on her own lol.
