    Default hypoglycemia

    Does anyone suffer from this?
I always have but since I have been dancing I have been having hypoglycemic attacks because I have been so busy and forgotten to eat and realised 8 hours later that I am so hungry.

Last night I had such a scary attack. My whole body was shaking and I felt so nauseated. I looked it up on the net and apparently the tremors can be from a hypoglycemic attack.

Plus I had been drinking champagne on an empty stomach which didn't help. It also made me have a panic attack.

Does anyone else experience this? What snack foods are good to eat during the night to stop this from happening? Has anyone tried a hypoglycemic diet?

Almost anyone will have a hypoglycaemic reaction when they go for too long without food, whether or not they actually have hypoglycaemia.

I've had hypoglycaemic symproms most of my life and my family and I assumed I had it. However, I got a fasting glucose test done a few months back and my levels are smack bang in the middle of the normal range. So much for that. Obviously the symptoms had just been caused by not eating enough.

I've tried a hypoglycaemic diet, since I was certain I had either hypoglycaemia or pre-diabetes (both my dad and grandmother are type two diabetics and my mother thinks she is hypoglycaemic). It involves eating every two to four hours, something with protein and complex carbs and no sugar, preferably low GI also. Thise kinds of foods will help sustain your energy for longer and prevent attacks of the dizzies.

Have you had an attack llike I described? That was the mmost serious one I have had. Usually I get a bit shaky but this was the first time my body was actually shaking llike tremors. I didn't know what was wrong. At first I thought someone had spiked my drink at work but I realised there was no opportunity where that could have happened and also because I felt nauseated and very very hungry.

I was having a really great night too and I had to go home early which sucked.

was it worth getting that test done do u think?

I have had these attacks at work coz sometimes I forget to eat for 5 or even 8 hours! Only when it's busy i forget. But I have had about 4 attacks.

I've never shook, I don't think, but I have blacked out and fainted (though I had anorexia at the time, so take that for what it's worth).

I got the test because I thought I'd developed diabetes, but it turned out to only be a mild virus, so it was very reassuring and I'd say worth it. You're always better off knowing than guessing, in any event.

I thought I was hypoglycemic, but it turned out that I'm just mildly allergic/sensitive/whatever you want to call it to a lot of grains. When I stopped eating grains I stopped having hypoglycemic symptoms.

When I was hypoglycemic tho, I just took 4 or 5 of those beef 'n cheese thingies or packets of nuts with me to work and ate one every couple hours. It only takes a minute. Avoiding alcohol is important, too.

One of my exs was hypoglycemic. He swore by nuts, he used to always have a little tin of almonds handy to munch on every so often when he was working long odd shifts.
I had a simular thing twice this week from missing meals - horrible and Im pissed off to about missing out on the earning oppertunity.

I get those. Tremors and all. I swear by sunflower seeds or lunchables. They're both easy to slip in during and odd slow moment and easy to get down if you get to the point of nausea. I have to agree with you though, it's terrifying every time.

Honestly, I'd say keep something high in protien on hand but if it gets that bad ANYTHING will help. I once savaged a doormans baklava because I thought I was gonna pass out. It doesn't work as well and the effect doesn't last as long but it does buy you enough time to order a pizza.

Would one apple also be of benefit? I always take one apple with me to work as it is easy to transport, doesn't perish easily and seems to fill me up whilst giving me an energy boost for the rest of the night.

I try to make sure I eat it at the 'half way' point of my night and with at least 30 minutes before my next podium/stage set.

I get the tremors/nausea/panic from hypoglycemia (I've had the test, I am hypo). I bring at least a snack bar to work with me. Snack cheese is good as well as is a PB sammich (preferably with non-sugary PB).

When I have had an insane amount of or have gone too long without any sugar I'll start to get the dizziness and blotchy vision, in rare and severe instances I'll get a brownout(I think that's what they're called). I've never been tested for anything, I don't know where I stand.

I worked out it was 9 hours without food - how stupid of me. I am going to make sure I eat something every two hours from now on.

The nuts are a good idea as they would be quick and easy to snack on. I've never tried sunflower seeds, I'll have to try.

    Thanks.

I get the pre-shelled ones. The other ones are just too much work!

I used to always take an apple, or some fruit, with me to work at the clubs. Fruits don't cause the belly to bulge, don't require preparation, and can tide you over without you having to order fattening bar food.

I am hypoglycemic and it seems my body creates so much insulin that if I don't have sugar or carbs a whole lot during my day I will get all the above symptoms and black out. My doctor has warned me I have a severe case of it and next time if my symptoms don't get treated within minutes of feeling it, I could end up in a coma.

Protein snacks are best. Fruit is generally NOT a good idea as it will "spike" your blood sugar causing an oversecretion of insulin leaving your blood sugar LOWER than before. Same thing for carbs.

Nuts are good. So is cheese. So are low sugar veggies.

WATER is so important to have with your snack or meal. I've had episodes that left me so dehydrated I could nearly drink a gallon of water.

Ditto. I have symptoms, but appently not actual hypoglycemia, just a sensitivity to my blood sugar. Eating fairly often and following a hypoglycemic/ diabetic diet help a lot. If I don't eat often enough I feel really weak, shaky, sweaty, bitchy, and just plain tired. Try having some sort of snack with you wherever you go, in case you're ever feeling low blood sugar.
