Default Do you ever just laugh at the absurdity of it all?

No matter how long I do this job some parts of it will always be absurdly hilarious. I'll be dancing on stage and think to myself, "This is what I do for a living," and then I look down at the guys and it's just funny to me. Essentially, putting my boobs in people's faces has paid for everything I have.

And I love men, but they are all like little kids in a candy store when they are at the strip club. They really are reduced to their very basic nature, and I marvel at how simple it is to get what we want from them. It's like shooting fish in a barrel, lol. I love watching them watch girls on stage, they are so mesmerized and sometimes I'll notice that they all have the same expression on their faces. Same with the private dance room. All guys pretty much have the same serious look on their face while getting a dance. It cracks me up.

And of course, our co-workers are a constant source of entertainment, and ourselves too. I was doing my makeup last night and it really looked a little clownish in the bright light of the dressing room. There's a reason I wait until I'm there to put on my blue eyeshadow, big eyelashes and red lips. I really do think that drag queens and strippers would give similar makeup advice.

I can't be the only one who sees the humor in this job. That's one of the best things about it, IMO, there's never a dull moment. What makes you laugh at work?

I have to laugh at the job- it's so insane. Every night there's something new.

I regret many strippers are dullards who can't or won't appreciate the "adventure" stripping can provide. Oh well, more for me, huh? ; P

Lol! I can so relate to this. I laughed when you mentioned guys having such a serious look on their face because it's so true!!! When you think about it, this is a funny industry. We get paid to walk around in underwear. lol

It's primitive as hell. It's funny that this industry will never die. May have its super slow moments but damn, there is a reason we have over 30 strip clubs in Dallas. It's like Starbucks.

I love the fact that I get to profit immensely from something that's so simple. Nudity. Hah.

I remember my first night I made like $700 and I was just sitting there counting my money at the end of the night like "... REALLY? That's it..? I get to go home..? With this cash?" I felt like I had just stole it.

It may sometimes be hard on the body (and mind) but it's been the most worthwhile time I've ever invested in any job.

I agree. Sometimes when I am on stage I just start smiling because I am dancing around naked in a bar. Its so weird! But I love it

Oh yes, this job can be very absurd! Hmmn, what makes me laugh...some young guy mesmerized watching some poll trickster on stage turns to me in awe asking, "Wow, so and so must be so good she doesn't even work the floor"?

Of course she does, everyone does, but she's more likely sitting back in the dressing room whining and complaining.

I do have to laugh about the make-up, except I don't have the luxury of applying it once I'm already at work ( no room in the DR) so I have to put on my "whore paint", along with my hot pink jogging suit and tennis shoes, get into my car and go work. Heaven forbid if I need to stop for something on the way. LOL!

Last night I was whining about counting ones. "Geeez, this is gonna take FOREVER. Stupid ones." Then I realized I was being so silly. I started cracking up. Oh no! I have to COUNT all of this money! SIgh! The agony!

not only that, but it isnt unusual to be topless and having a conversation with your manager. thats so strange to me, if i stop to think about it!

I'm a geek myself, and so I will not infrequently find myself in the most unusual conversations... (I'm a good talker, so if the guy comes in with a cutting horse buckle on I can tell a few stories about working cattle as a little girl, or with a hunting shirt I can talk about last year's doe, or looking like a geek I can discuss Star Trek and computers, etc.) It's a bit absurd, though, when the discussion turns to some strange conversation about Persian mythology, global warming, the war in Iraq, the fall of the Roman Empire, the similarities in Aztec/Egyptian culture and architecture, or the invasion of China by the Mongols...

    And then I realize...

    I'M IN A T-BACK!

Mmm. You're sitting there, talking about the finer nuances of American politics and culture in damn near nothing, then take him upstairs for lapdances. I love it sometimes. I'd feel sorry for them if they had no idea what they were doing.

Or you bend over, and the manager walks by and lightly smacks your butt and you both laugh. Anywhere else and there would be some kind of harassment suit filed.

I laugh about it all the time...sometimes when I'm on stage it hits me with a jolt "omg I'm performing naked in front of 100 people, my life is fucking surreal!".

I laugh at people who get all weirded out about how I "handle" having a job "like that". It's like, what's the big controversy? I get naked, dance around, and pretend to be attracted to silly mesmerized men all night.

I love the fact that guys never get tired of naked. Like, when I take off my top and they go "Wow!" They're never, like, "Oh, no. Not boobs again."

One of the funniest things ever was when a coworker of mine said, for the record, "I'm on stage and it's just, 'Here's my pussy this way! Here's my pussy that way!' It's the most ridiculous job in the world!"

Hahaha! I laugh at my job aallll the time! If you sit back and think about what we do for a living it's pretty damn funny! I've always found humor in all of the conservative jobs I've had anyway, so stripping just brings out even more of my goofy and already nutty persona.

I'll also sit with the custies and watch and laugh at the girls on stage, too... knowing damn well I do the same things they do. I would love to actually watch myself on stage doing the booty clap in some guys face while his jaw is to the floor from where the audience is sitting.

If I'm doing a lap for a guy and there is a girl next to me doing one, too, sometimes I will just crack up out of nowhere, and think to myself, "Wow...what a job!" *sigh* I love stripping and all the entertainment it gives me.

I used to have that thought all the time, and I miss the "absurdity" of it like mad. I used to laugh when customers would have unusual requests. It's the "extreme" stuff that always had me cracking up. I once had a customer who'd take me back into champagne and have me "trample" him. Easiest money I ever made and a I laughed all the way to the bank

I think it's funny when I get onstage I'm stripper Melina. Sexy, naughty, etc... But 5 minutes before stage, I'm in the dressing room talking to the girls about my farts or other disgusting kindergarten boy-ish subjects.

If only those men knew how we really were......

It totally cracks me up. I will sometimes sit back and watch people, see who's looking where and watching what. Like the other night, I watched this guy stand by the stairs and as each and every girl passed him he would say something "Damn girl!" "Oh! Looking hot" "You're on fire baby!" etc....holding his drink, noddingh is head "yah!"

    And it cracked me up!

Or when I'm dancing for a guy and I do a certain move and I think in my head (now he's going to look up at me like "wow!", and now he's going to lean forward..) and I start laughing. Because it's so damn silly!

Bend over, wiggle butt, turn around, wiggle boobs, collect dollars. Next!

Yes, the humor is all over the place.

90% of the time I see the humor in this job in every little detail. I try to get that other 10% out of the way as fast as possible.

    Giggity giggity.

But seriously (eh, serious-ish) thanks AndyGirl for making this thread. I feel like this all the time, and its part of the reason I looove being a stripper. Its amazing and amusing to me that I can make 20 dollars from some appreciative customer for showing a newer dancer how to shake her ass. And that men's eyes do that adorable googly thing when I take my top off.

But I especially love that I can be my goofy, nerdy self and get paaaiiiid for it!

It's not funny per se but very interesteing to me to watch the girls faces when their grinding on a guy and not facing him... most girls do this, I make a point not to bc I am sure the custies notice it...

Dancing girl facing customer is smiles, sexy face...

Dancing girl turns her back and starts to grind with a vacant stare, and resumes chewing her gum.

My worst stripper sin has probably been answering my phone and talking while giving a lap dance (what, I was like 1.... to be fair, I did give the guy another lap dance for free.
