    Default Saw Beowulf...

    Crazy movie.

Alot of people who've seen it hated it, thought it was lame, etc.

But I've always been weird with liking epic whatevers like the Iliad, Oddysey, etc.

    And I loved the book.

I thought the movie was pretty cool, and it stuck to the book really well.

I did NOT like the way they made Grendel but I don't know how else they would have I guess.

But Angelina Jolie totally made a hot Grendel's mother.

    Also.

Whoever was the actor that played Beowulf...I? Want to do him.

The computer/animation/graphics whatever you call it were crazy - it looked so real.

You have to have the right expectations to enjoy the movie, I guess, but I liked it.

I'm a minority in the people I've talked to though.

    Anybody else see it?

it took a perfectly fine source text that would have made a very nice fantasy-action movie and deviated from it massively in ways that failed to be movie-suitable. they changed about 2/3rds of the core plot elements to be 'edgy' and 'cool', but the changes were just incoherent and stupid. also, using cliches to appear original is ironic. but that's what gaiman and zemeckis did.

    totally weak sauce. :-(

Seriously, and I get shunned and mocked by the only person *I* asked to go with. This is what happens when you date a movie prude. *Sigh*

I saw it in 3-D, and thought it was pretty awesome.

One thing that bothered me though. The men of the film looked so unbelievably real, to the point where I seriously couldn't tell if it was life-action or animation. Their faces, facial hair, regular hair, even their clothes, looked like real features and real cloth.

On the other hand, the women, as a whole, looked very awkward and cartoonish, very obviously animated. The queen especially looked awkward and coarse. I think it has to be much harder for animators and CGI to create lifelike imitations of the softer, rounder features of women, rather than the more defined features of a man.

They did a much better job with Angelina, but even her in some parts looked weird. Like when she was "naked", her head and features were drastically out of proportion, making her look like a stick figure.

The overall movie was fantastic. Though I would definitely see it in theaters (3-D IMAX preferable); on video, it just won't have the same pull.

the movie looks like a video-game walkthrough, except actual video game walkthroughs have made better advances in human skeletal movement and look much more fluid.

however, i did not see the 3-d version. maybe that one looked better.

    <-- really didn't like it.
