Default anyone know much about dreams?

lately i've been having some strange dreams.

most mornings i wake up and remember at least part of the dream i've just had. last night i had like a video game style dream (i have them often) and i had a gun and was riding on a train and i shot someone because he was waiting at the train station to kill me. then i was being chased by a snake, but i was trying to run but for some reason i just couldn't gain any speed as if i was running into a really powerful wind or something.

every night my dreams are completely different, but there's two strange recurring themes that keep happening.

    1. in every dream i have had recently, i am riding in a train at some point or another. there was one where i was going to a haunted house and had to catch a train there, and there was one where i was on some really weird grey train and it was night time and i had my cat with me and it was really creepy. the train is sometimes a main focal point, but sometimes it is not. either way, there is ALWAYS a train at some point or another. i should mention that i do not ride trains in my daily life, i can't even remember the last time i went on a train. i am completely indifferent to trains.

    2. the running thing. in many of my dreams there has been a point where i have either been running away from something, or running to something (there was one where i was running to catch a train, hah), but i am always unable to gain speed. and i always get so frustrated, like i try and try to run but my body just will not go fast, like it's heavy or lethargic.

does anyone have any idea about what these things could mean??

Sounds to me like you feel you're being carried on an unstoppable path to something unpleasant or destructive and you feel powerless to stop it. At least, that's how I'd look at it if it were me, and have done so in the past. When I've actually worked through the issue that I've felt helpless about, the dreams changed.

i found this on some dream website...

To dream that you are trying to run but cannot make your feet move as fast as you want them to, signifies lack of self-esteem and self-confidence

    interesting.

I don't know much about them, clinically, Darcy, though I use my own dreams often in my writing (I'm a fiction writer). You sound like you have a vivid imagination; the train thing makes me think of some beast of transport which is out of your control, and I have the same sense with the running--that in both cases you are unable to control the nature of the transport, even when it is something that should be under your control.

I've had the running without power dream many times myself--it was always in times of some frustration; after my father died, I had recurring nightmares about trying to save him (I still do sometimes, actually, and it is almost three years later), and some of these were so horrific I just gave up trying to sleep in any normal way. I find as I am coming to terms with the situation--as I'm gaining more control over my thinking and the medical situation itself (I'll be taking some action with the hospital where he died) much of this is subsiding. So this is what I'm wondering: is there something going on which you cannot control? Often there is something there and we've buried it so well we don't know what the hell it is until we really think about it.

I hope you'll find some peaceful sleep soon without so many of the trains. I'll bet even raising the question will help you deal with it in some small way--

the thing is, the trains don't upset me or anything. it's not like they're making for unpleasant dreams. there was only one dream where the trains were scary. i just find it really odd that every dream features a train at some point or another, sometimes in the most minute and insignificant way. but it's always still there.

Sometimes I think the image (like the train) is something the brain just picks up when you're watching television or something, and then it uses it in its own narrative when you are sleeping--ie your soul is worked up about some issue and the train is used--because it is a convenient, immediate image--to demonstrate that you feel out of control. I'm glad the dreams are not too disturbing, though the one where you were holding your cat sounded pretty scary to ME...so I think you're a tough cookie.

Amazing, really, how our brains work in tandem with our emotions, inventing these narratives.

I think of a train as symbolic of a fixed direction, big, unstoppable. When I'm on a train in my dreams, I interpret it as fearing that I don't have a choice where I'm going.

It does sound like a control/ fear issue...like you are dreading something you find is probably inevitable?

I'm no psychologist though. I do find dreams fascinating. I don't have the running problem, but I often have a problem in dreams where I can't talk. Something is frightening me, for example, and I want to cry out/ scream, but my voice won't come. It's very scary.

Did you ever hear Quentin Watts on the radio? She is fantastic. Its says in this interview that she still interprets dreams online.

I dont have time to check right now but this could be the page, Im not sure but if it isnt it would definatly be worth seeing if you can find her as she is brilliant!
