It's not a great idea. It's got some toxins in it that many people are kind of allergic to. It won't kill you (well... probably not) but it might make you itchy, cause hives, swelling, etc.

If you are allergic to anything in the nightshade family (most notably poision ivy... that is, if you have a very strong reaction to poison ivy, then mango skin might really hurt you) you should avoid eating the skin, or even touching the skin to your lips. This goes especially for the skin right near the stem.

My dad is allergic to poison ivy and avoids fresh mangoes altogether. Things that have been pasteurized (like ice cream and those frozen fruit bar things) he can eat.

Hmmm... actually I just did some research and it says that people all over the world eat mango skin. It's used as a folk remedy in some cultures. So technically you CAN eat it, if you really want to. But you may have an allergic reaction. Here is a mango fact sheet:

...Wow, I am a nerd. I love talking about produce more than I like hanging out with people. Because do we have company? Yes. What am I doing? Mango research.

Okay, last post. If you feel okay, and everything seems fine other than the swelling, then no, don't call a doctor. Keep an eye on things and if you start to have trouble breathing/ break out in hives all over your body/ run a fever/ lose a limb, then call a doctor.

    ^^Agreed with above post.

The same thing happened to my mom. Her lips swelled up and got all itchy. She didn't have to go to the doctor though. My mom also mentioned that pesticides that aren't thoroughly washed off can cause it. But she was just speculating.

This might be a bit late but anyway - make sure you wash any residue off because the juices in mangos can burn and cause blisters.
