It’s days like this that remind me of how dysfunctional and fu%$ and families can be. I’m not much for holidays; in fact if they banned them all now, I would not lose any sleep over it. Big waste of time in my book, but moving on…last year we had thanksgiving at my house, like 10 people. All good. This year, everyone more or less assumed (including me) the same thing would happen. GF’s parents said they were going to come also all the way from MO to MA, OK fine, that would be like 15 people or so.
Her parents cancel like last week. No big deal, down 2.
My brother and family decide they want to do their own thing, and let me know this last week...ok fine, down 4 more.
My sister says she’s going to NY and wont make it…ok..down another one, leaving just one person, my father. No reason to even make the dinner thing, I just make a reservation at a place and figure me and the GF will take my father out for Thanksgiving dinner.
He calls this morning, and cancels, using some lame excuse about weather and traffic, though it’s sunny and traffic is very light...great.
So after all that, it’s just me and the GF looking at each other like “what the fu*&?!”
To give my father an excuse, he is 83 and all that, but he pulls that last minute crap all the time, or at least the few times per year I see him. But, I offered to come down his way last week if he would just find a place that’s open, and he was all “No, I will come up to see you.”
So, she’s reading a book and I am on the comp, thanx a bunch to my ever loving family….not. I don’t really care if they wanted to do the whole Thanks giving thing or not, that’s not the issue. The issue for me is that due to their flaking last minute crap, we are left with nothing to do. Had I known, would have freakin’ booked something, or hooked up with friends, or what ever.
So, will probably find a Chinese place open to eat and see a movie or something...
Typical BS. Rant off.
