Are there any other stipulations for the paper? Word count, format? Does it have to be a "proper" paper, or just a paper on ethics, nothing else matters?
^^^ I remember that! She was not happy about it. I love her...
Thats a great idea - how the images being able to be manipulated so easily make idols that children and teens look up to seem utterly perfect and how its causing things like anorexia and body dysmorphia.
That paper COULD get really deep. Depends on where youre wanting to go with it.
Let me get the syllabus... Sorry in the middle of putting up the tree with the kids so I'll be in and out![]()
Paper Assignment – Due November 26
Theme – Art V.S. Ethics: A Personal Response to the Creative and Ethical Uses of Digital Photography
Write a minimum 2 page paper that focuses on your personal response to some of the creative uses of digital photography and discuss where you think the creative uses of digital images collide with the ethical uses. Provide clear examples of what you consider creative uses and why you consider them creative. Also provide clear examples what you consider ethical and unethical uses of digital images and why.
There are some resources on ethics in digital imaging book marked for you on Campus Pipeline. Use these resources for your paper discussion. Remember I want your thoughts on this issue, not somebody else’s. It’s OK to refer to other people’s ideas about this issue but make sure you cite their ideas properly in your paper (I give better grades to people who use citations properly).
Paper format: Maximum border on any side - 1”
Maximum line spacing – 1 ˝ space
Required font size - 12 pt.
Required font style - Times New Roman

just a suggestion.. you might not want to post that much of your paper on here. these days, teachers often search around online to make sure no one is plagarizing. would you want your instructor to find this site?
Yeah I didn't even think of that. Umm I am just stuck in the is it making sense kinda aspect. Well if anyone would like to help me please PM me and once I am done you can perhaps proof read?
but it also says you can refer to others ideas - that would be us... so thats a bit of a catch 22?! I mean were just giving ideas (like it says) were not writing the paper for you!
Yes, oh man confusing! lol
So I guess mention some people you talked to said "XYZ" and you agree because of "ABC" ?

^ Just about.
Find some articles about the ethical uses and misuses of photography and argue your points for and/or against them. The teacher just means you can't make up your own arguments and have no published backup.
If you still need proof readers, I don't mind. I'm a whiz at citations too.
Because there ain't no tits on the radio
It's a response paper. Meaning, essentially you can write whatever you want. But the main gist should be your immediate reaction to the subject.
If when one says "What do you think of photo editing a subject for a better appearance" you immediately think "Isn't that damaging to the women of our society, to strive toward a goal that is unreachable? How does that effect the fragile psyche of young women and teens, to attempt to appear the same way a professionally digitally altered picture does?" ... then run with that. Whatever your first thought is.
Then, once you get your basic idea of YOUR response, ask others for theirs. Mainly to get more perspective, make you think more in depth. Even ask for rebuttals, to help you re-think your main point.
I have a TON of articles on this subject, though, if you need them. Look up the Body Issues at Pandagon blog. She has bunches of stuff on this.
Thanks guys.
I just wanted to say it totally helps to create an outline first.
Write down your thesis statement, and then from that develop your outline.
This will help to organize your thought so you can better write the paper.
Once you have the thesis written, you have your paragraphs ready to develop, because the thesis should contain all the main ideas you plan to write.
Developing the thesis and creating the outline are very helpful in writing a paper.
Some years ago there was a manipulated photo of New York City published in the National Geographic. The photographer had moved buildings that were blocks apart together to get a better composition. There was a big debate as to whether it was ethical to manipulate photos this way and then publish them. Someone then asked if it was ethical to use a polaroid filter to change color density.
There's some ideas to kick around in your paper.
If you want to PM it to me (or ask for my e-mail!) I'd be glad to proofread it...I'm a editor at.
