    Tips to Fight Stress

I've been way less stressed out lately and in a better mood. And it's not necessarily because my life is any less crazy or stressful. This has been going on for about 3 weeks now, and it's been beneficial to the people around me as well. Since there's a lot of us that are under a lot of stress right now, I thought I'd share my 'secrets' to keeping upbeat and lowering stress.

    -One day at a time.
I used to stress about things in the future like OMG I need money, food, etc next week, next month, etc. But what good is it going to do to keep myself obsessing over things in the future? If I'm too busy worrying, I'm too busy to find solutions.

    -Quit obsessing.
This ties into above. Obsessing gets nothing done. Instead it gets you so sick you can often become dehabilitated , especially if you have anxiety and IBS like me.

    -Start writing.
Start a journal/blog if you don't have one. Write in your blog if you do. You can even blog in a word document, or start a livejournal that is private if you would prefer to keep others from reading it. I have a blog I keep only on my harddrive on Linux so only me (and R) can read it. I find once I get things down into writing I can start to manage it.

    - Accept the things you can't change.
Sometimes no matter what I do things will go wrong. If there's nothing I can do, there's really no reason to keep worrying and obsessing. It's not going to magically change because I want it to. As for things I can change, I make lists, brainstorm solutions, etc.

    -Allow yourself indulgences.
If you need a break, take it. Otherwise you will continue to wind up like a clock! Surf SW, read, play games. Do whatever. Life is tough and you deserve it.

    -Laugh.
Sometimes life is just ironic, crazy, and a bitch. I've learned to just laugh. Sometimes it helps because I realize how ridiculous some things are. Sometimes it lightens my spirits. Either way it's a good way to let go.

    -Take care of your body!
If the machine isn't working right, the pieces won't function!

So, I hope this helps somebody else.

Just to add to the stress reducing ideas, I find listening to audio books while I get ready for work or am on my way somewhere really helps me to focus on the bigger picture and realize that whatever happens, it's ok, and meant to happen. Worry never makes things better, and you are what you think/focus on.

I recommend anything by Wayne Dyer. For example "The Power of Intention," "Secrets of the Universe," "Creating Your Life With Your Thoughts," just to list a few.

Also, "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie, alot of Tony Robbins stuff, and Brian Tracy when I want to focus on selling at work.

There is a theory that your mind and body can have an effect on each other. Negative thoughts and emotions can add to stress and have an effect on your physical health, for example. So one way to reduce stress is by relaxing your body: deep breathing, a soothing bath, relaxing your muscles, that sort of thing.
