From the story it would appear that some California environmentalists are now calling for a ban on wood burning fireplaces / stoves / furnaces, based on their emission of large amounts of CO2 and particulate matter.
Of course these are the very same California environmentalists who are arguably responsible for the burning of hundreds of thousands of acres of California forests every year due to their legally effective environmental objections to logging / commercial forest management, and also their legally effective objections to the thinning of undergrowth by adjacent private property owners.
So if I understand this right, it's not OK to burn wood if humans will derive a benefit from it, but it IS OK to burn 10 times as much wood as long as it causes death and destruction instead ?
Also, now that the US Supreme Court has ruled that CO2 is an 'air pollutant' such that the EPA can regulate it, several states have petitioned the EPA to set emission standards for wood burning appliances so that new state laws can then be written to shut them down.
