and what do you love about your culture and can you share a tradition for the season?

Although born in NY both my parents are from Puerto Rico and I lived there almost my entire life.

What I love about my culture is how musical and festive we are

Our traditions for this time of year during las navidades neighbors and friends make a parranda or asalto, going from house to house singing Puerto Rican Christmas carols. Once everything has been eaten and drunk, the erstwhile 'host' joins the trulla and they all go to somebody else's home.

    Your turn!

I am Mexican and Lithuanian (and some other stuff...but those are the main 2).

Overall, my MIL gets angry because neither my husband or I participate in the Mexican festivities (we're not Catholic, we don't believe in the religion and so we don't participate in the church).

I don't know much about the Lithuanian culture. All I know is that my (past) family worked so hard to make the family fit in to America, that they lost teaching the traditions.

I had no control over my ethnic and racial backgrounds, so I take no particular pride in them. I'll allow pride for what I accomplish on my own.

Both of my parents are Irish and Italian and there's some Native American on my mom's side.

I get my zest for life from the Italian part and my sense of humor from the Irish side. I don't know any of my NA relatives, so I'm not sure what I get from them.

Christmastime is big for both cultures as my background is very Catholic (I don't observe). But I'm 3rd generation American, so most of the traditions have been very diluted.

I should be able to drink given my heritage, but I have NO tolerance at all.

Metis-Mohawk and Swiss. One side of my family is all about Swiss, and the others don't really give a shit about being Native, so I was never taught the traditions.

Oh I don't know what the correct term for anything is, just try to understand what I'm talking about, if you read my post you would see I am referring to what your ancestors were and what you feel you are.

I'm American. I spend the holidays indulging in the time-honored American tradition of watching television and eating too much.

OK, I'm of Italian descent so if you just make sure a lot of what you eat too much of is pasta, you are all set with the whole tradition thing!

New Zealand is its own country. Maori people are indigenous to New Zealand, just as Aborigines are indigenous to Australia.

I'm Italian on my dad's side, Irish and Native American (Choctaw) on my mothers... we don't have any traditions at all. My family celebrates Christian holidays but we're not christian/catholic anything. My mom and I's beliefs are more new-age than christian... so I dont know why she still insists on christmas/easter/etc.. but she does. I don't participate though.
