    Default Horrible Constipation -

OK, being pregnant whats the best thing for me? Id prefer something natural and fast working.

It was so bad yesterday that I got all hot and sweaty, everything went quiet and dark... then i couldnt stand up, my legs buckled and I couldnt get off the floor - from the pain.

This morning I woke up at 5am from horrible cramping pains... it hurts soooo bad. Its almost 4 hrs later and everytime i stand up i start cramping and it just hurts!

I need something that works FAST I cant take this pain anymore....

Ouch! I never get constipated while pregnant, but I have definite issues with it for about 6 months after birth!

As far as fast-working and natural, pick up some pomegranite juice, apple juice, and white grape juice. Drink a glass about every 2 hours.

To get your digestive system back on track, definitely start some good probiotics!!

Water. Tons and tons of water will get you moving again.

For an immediate fix, have a cup of very hot coffee with milk in it. Drink it as quickly as you can, and then follow it with two or three tall glasses of cold water. This should do the trick. After that just make sure you drink tons of water every day.

Yes, plus milk in it actually helps. But if you do it the way I said, you get the additional benefits of temperature. The hot milky coffee relaxes the intestines and moves everything along, lubricating it, and then following it immediately with ice water causes the intestines to contract, pushing it out. This trick works wonders.

Milk to taste. I'll usually do 1/4 milk and 3/4 coffee but that's just me. The main thing is just to make sure it's very hot, so you might want to nuke the milk for a few seconds to warm it up before pouring the coffee in.

If you don't make coffee at home, a latte will work too.

Yea ^^^ Ive seen many conflicting reports about coffee. Some say up to 3 cups a day is ok, some say it messes with the baby. Theres no yes/no on it. Thats so frustrating to someone like me whos a coffee person. Yes or No - Just tell me!

Just switch to decaf if you still want coffee! It's probably the psychological effects of drinking coffee that wake you up just as well as the caffeine.

Oh God. Prunes have the problem of being both tasty AND effective. I accidentally ate a whole bag once and it was BAD.

Seriously....hot prune juice works even better. Get the one without any added sugars like from a health food store. Fill a coffee mug full and microwave it until as hot as you can stand it. Then chug it.... I promise you will go within 2 hours. Be a near a toilet with some music playing because it'll be loud. It'll be over quick so don't worry.

Oh yea works better on a near empty stomach for faster and better activation. Takes all the nasty out of having to eat all those prunes.

Senna tea (can get it at GNC), might wanna check if its safe for pregnant moms though, but it works like a charm!

Or prune juice, two 8oz glasses a day should do the trick and be safe for baby too.

I don't know...whatever they had done to these ones made them damn good. The juice is SICK. I'd rather eat them then have to drink the juice any day. However, it does work faster.

Obviously I can relate to this situation. Fun huh? Your whole digestive system literally slows down as a result of hormonal changes, and yet you can't take anything for it! Whee! The hardest time for me (no pun intended) was first trimester, when I could hardly stand to eat fibrous things like vegetables, but now that I'm out of that, it's improving. 1st tri, I had to depend on other things.

I'd say yea to the prunes & prune juice (in fact, think of them as "dried plums" if prunes gross you out - some companies are currently renaming them this in a clear attempt at an image makeover) and PROBABLY nay to the senna tea unless it's cleared by a midwife or doctor, though I don't know for sure. (It certainly works - I've had it many times - but herbs with really strong effects should be approached with caution during pregnancy. It might be okay, but check it out. Just because it's herbal doesn't mean it's automatically safe.)

You can also try starting to add flaxmeal to your cereal in the morning if you like the taste; the golden kind is more subtle & unintrusive, but I like both. Adding fiber in general is crucial!

Finally, as for coffee, I'm a coffee drinker too, and I know what you mean about the mixed messages. I decided to switch to half-decaf and limit myself to a cup or two a the most, so the equivalent of a half to one full cup per day. Taken in the morning with my flaxmeal cereal, I've been managing okay.

I have yet to build an appetite... so Im not eating breakfast (Im sure itll come soon) The only thing that sounds good to be is Simply Orange OJ and it HAS to be Simply Orange. Weird - is there any fiber that I can add to that which isnt nasty?

Sh*t - I just wrote that then realized I have Metamucil Orange Flavor in my cupboard... duh - is that ok to take? Id guess yes?
