    Default Totally overrated: mani/pedi

My grandma made an appointment for me to have a mani/pedi for my birthday (aw, grandmas), which is a totally misplaced but also cute gift for a gal like me. It was my first one. So I trundled on in to the salon today to have my nails prettified...and wow. They look...OK. The experience was...boring and slightly uncomfortable.

    What's the big ass deal?

I know. I despise having my nails done and will avoid getting acrylics at any cost. I refuse pedicures in any circumstance because I've got a weird phobia about it. Thanks for making me feel not weird for not liking stuff like that.

The last last time I got a pedi the lady cut my cuticle and my toe bled enough to make a scab. I'd say a massage is much more worth it than a mani/pedi.

I like the end result of pedicures because I have nasty-ass Florida flip-flop hippie feet that are always dirty and callused. I'm never willing to devote the time and energy to making them look nice, so every once in a while I get a pedicure and ask the person to scrub extra hard and get the grossness off my feet (I tip extra for this service, and occasionally feel as though I'm being exploitative). Anyway, the big deal about pedicures for me is that someone makes me look better than I'm willing to make myself look. If your feet do not require as much work as mine (which they probably don't), then I can understand why pedicures are pointless.

And manicures can basically fuck themselves. I hate that shit.

I agree. I find that I can do a better job painting my toes and nails myself. The foot baths gross me out too. I find that the pedicures don't ever really get in there and get rid of calluses either like I can. They just put all this smelly shit on your feet. Big deal.

I do get acrylics though because I obviously can't do that (not that I'd want to). Sometimes it's so boring though and I wish I could speed up the process. But it's worth it to me...no polish chipping, long, stong nails...

Oh thank god I'm not the only one! I can't stand anything salon-related, though, including just a simple haircut.

I think my main problem is I hate my feet being touched. And I don't know if it's because I'm clumsy or not ladylike enough or what, every manicure I've gotten has chipped within hours, if not minutes. So I have always wondered what the big deal is.

I live for my mani and pedi! Every two weeks!
I have solar gels so I can't do them myself. I've been going to the same guy for almost three years and he's a riot! Picks on me the whole time. He gives the most amazing pedis!, the massaging chair, feet wrapped in hot towels! Pure heaven!

I do my own nails with $5 press ons. I've done them so many times that I've become a pro! Girls actually think they are my real nails. So I sure the hell ain't going to pay $50 for someone to do the same thing I can do for $5!

I hate the damn vibrating chair when I get a pedicure. It drives me crazy and makes me itchy! LOL But I get my pedi done every 3-4 weeks and I love it! I get gel nails too. I've done it for years and I can't imagine myself without it.

I hate getting my nails done and avoid it as long as i can. When my nails are so bitten down they look like shit, I go get acrylics. But I HATE it. I despise pedicures becuase 1) my feet are insanely ticklish and its all I can do to no t kick the girl inthe head while shes working and 2) I get ingrown toenails a lot and they dont know how to deal withthem..so they try to pry them up and shit which fucking hurts.

    So....yeah..no thanks

i do my pedicures myself. they aren't the best or the fanciest, but they get the job done, and i can do all of it in between doing other stuff at home. it's nice. and i get to avoid all the injuries that can happen. *shudder*

i can understand manicures involving acrylics and maybe silk wraps, but in general i don't get the point at all. there's this stuff called moisturizer...

You would be surprised how many guys actually notice things like our hands and feet. They may not tell you, but they sure do. Hell, I used to have a customer who loved my feet so much that he used to put $5 bills between each toe. If I had a french, he'd put $10.

No offense ad I am not speaking to anyone here. But they go to the club to see a totally together woman, from head to toe. That includes hands and feet. No one says youhave to look like a dragon lady, but a mani/pedi once a month won't kill you.

Not only that, my feet don't hurt as much as they would if I didn't get them.

The place I go to does my mani/pedi for $15 and stays fresh for 2 weeks. It's a write off for dancers, by the way...

I have to keep my nails with acryllic and gel to look nice. Otherwise they get torn up. I don't like the process of having them done but I like the end result.

As far as pedicures, I love having them done. I love the massage part.

Sadly you're going to need a pedi every two weeks if you don't want that 'stripper callous' you're going to be getting on your pinky toe. But, in the future, go to a beauty spa for it. I got a foot scrub and massage with bufffing... then I got a back massage... then I got a steam facial with scrub and mask and some lemon stuff... and then I bought the scrub.. and it all cost me abot $250. Sweet.

I highly recommend massage. You can keep mani-pedi treatments but massage is like orgasm! It's that good.

I get a pedi once every 2 or 3 weeks... There are a lot of foot fetish guys out there, and I think it helps my money. As for my fingernails, I get acrylics because they're easier... I have a huge nail-biting problem otherwise. But yea, if I could snap my fingers and just have it *poof* done, I'd rather not go in. I like the massage part... otherwise, it's annoying and sometimes painful.

Yeah, I like the massage chair, the bubbly foot bath, and the foot scrub/ pretty cream massage/ powder that I'd get with my pedicures of yore.

The problem is, I'm so shy and embarrassed over people pampering my feet. If I'd go often, they'd talk to me...and there was this slim pretty Vietnamese girl my age who'd always paint my toes, and it was too awkward and mortifying. I had like a crush on her (one of my silly crushes that really just means 'can I be your friend?') so I stopped going.

Now I might as well do it myself, because the end result isn't much different. Although I was always impressed by the nail-art.
